I have to lock down my spec for my 812 in next few days. I’m torn between the rational: Grigio Ferro or the emotional: Rosso 70th anniversary.
There is no such thing as being understated in a Ferrari. So it might as well be red? Right? Some views/guidance please.

My 2 cents - go GF. I think the greys/silvers look great on an 812. Looks classy and hides the bulk of the car very well. All of the reds in my opinion fall down on those two dimensions, although the metallic reds are better than the 'flat' ones like Rosso Corsa at hiding the size. If you haven't already, make sure you see the colours in person on an 812... photos are not a good guide!

As an aside, mine is Grigio Titanio, which I love.

Everyone likes different colors. Last F12 was white and I’ve been in love with it . My personal feeling 812 is better in dark colors like black or even better blu Pozzi but it is very difficult to keep it clean and immediately you wash and dry it you find little scratches everywhere . You should polish it each time. That’s why I’ve ordered it red. Red 70th is even better, very nice and darker but even if it is an expensive car , 10000 euro for special color I personally think it is with no sense .

I went with Rosso 70 Anni. It was the only color I wanted after watching the 812 videos on the Ferrari website a while ago. It stuck with me that it was THE color for the 812. It looks amazing in person especially as it changes so much in different light. Highly recommended.

It's a matter of taste really. Had you said GF or Rosso Maranello, the latter would get my vote instantly. Not a fan of R70A, so can't say yes to that. So of those two, I suppose GF is the one to get...

There is nothing more visually evocative in the automotive world than a red Ferrari.

812 is too big for red. silvers/greys/blues.

    My 2c.

Red is a V8 mid engine Ferrari colour - the classic Rosso Corsa.

V12s should be in darker colours

If you want red on a V12, make it one of the triple layer or darker reds.

Merry (red) Christmas one and all...

812 is a big car and can look ungainly with bright colors.

Silvestone, Ferro, Canna di fucile, TDF BLU do a better job hiding the mass.

I was intrigued by your comment so I thought I’d take a look at how colour preference changes with model. The method I’ve used is prone to error so please see this as lighthearted fun rather than the gospel truth...

Looking the classifieds Europe wide, pre 1970 listings (they’ll all be V12 as V8 engines were introduced in 1972, I believe) have 25% of the cars in red.

Looking at the the mid engine V8 listings, I’ve calculated the percentage which are red.

    308 60%
    328 76%
    348 64%
    F355 56%
    360 52%
    F430 43%
    458 45%

    for the post 1970 V12s, the stats are as follows;

    Testarossa 74%
    512 74%
    456 7%
    612 8%
    F12 33%
    FF 22%
    812 42%

So - a mixed bunch of stats - the 80s and 90s were clearly the decades of red Ferrari’s regardless of engine configuration - but I feel that my general rule of thumb for V12 vs mid engine V8s applies.

Rosso Fuoco? I understand your dilemma. I had a Titanio F12 and I miss how it blended better in traffic and parking lots. And yes, it would always turn heads when noticed. With the red 812 I now feel compelled to drive slower in traffic and stay under the radar a lot more.

I really like Grigio Ferro Metalic though. I think I'd choose it over Grigio Titanio.
