I am with you, the Ferrari V12 is unique, perfect engineering, the superlative in engine construction. And because I'm a former engineer I have an understanding of Bundy's point of view. Today I work in marketing and sales and therefore I look very closely at how products are positioned in the market, which purpose they get, what customer needs are to be addressed and how they are positioned in relation to the competition. And here I come to the conclusion with the new Roma: presumably Ferrari has done everything right. In its entirety a very well balanced product, very complementary to the current product range, positioned in a very attractive market with the potential to win many new customers. I am appealing to evaluate products holistically. The customer doesn't just buy an engine, he buys a whole car, everything plays together and in this regard I see a damned interesting and attractive package with the Roma.
In a world where stupidity and lack of background apparently have become normal standards. Please, enjoy the Tailor Made program for the Roma grill, if you'd prefer a different "design": And meanwhile a bitter welcome to the great future plans with the Purosangue SUV:
Sorry, I have a very different opinion. Refinement and elegance is very much about detail. I wouldn't call the following details refined neither elegant. To me they are clumsy. Trying to be something, maybe modern. But imo failed. Not consistent. These lights, in combination with this black undergrill and the protruding skirt/spoiler, make me think of the mouth of a misconcepted fish. The grill, is just cheap, awful, the most unelegant thing I have ever seen on a non-Asian car.
Interesting opinion! For me the Roma is currently the most elegant car in the Ferrari portfolio. When I compare the Roma with the Portofino, I notice finally a tendency to smooth surfaces and very few ventilation openings. A development that in recent years has been too much in the direction of as many pseudo aerodynamic gimmicks as possible. The current Ferrari products have far too many such artificially forced design details in my opinion. To my eye the Roma appears very calm with elegant yet powerful proportions. Whereby the grill with holes is certainly its weakest detail. But I appreciate the courage for this new detail. I suppose it will depend on the color scheme. i find the grill very beautiful, very brave. kind of retro futuristic & gives the car a distinct characteristic. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hm.. seems the front grills looks much better to me now Maybe it's the angle of the pictures and/or the colors... BTW about V8 vs V12.. I think you all are right I believe Ferrari Roma is being sold as a cheaper than other V12 models, right? So I think you get what you paid for Other models have to have an additional edge (V12) for higher the price. I think this is what is suppose to be? As for myself... I like Ferrari Roma and If the finances would allow, I will buy it (or lease it, whatever, the important thing to me is ACCESS to things/wealth (Maxwell) Is it the most beautiful Ferrari that I have ever saw? Hell no man... As I said, I love(d) the F355 spider, F348 spider and among GT cars... Loved the Ferrari Maranello 550 (dark gray)... The looks, the performance, sound, everything... F355 is a mess to maintain but so are top w., added pleasure of pleasing or taking are of). I do not have time to wait for the perfect model/resurrection (anymore).. Have been "doing that" for BMW cars... They (BMW) haven't (ever) recreated to what it was in the 90s, where it has STRONG tech/mechanical! (not marketing) position in car industry and this is what attracted initial buyers, because it (BMW) started (decades back) as a TECH/MECH car, not the IMAGE/status car, like others... but over the years wanted to increase sales, widen target market, attract other markets (not just EU/US anymore)... and that comes at a price... Every (stockholders) dream now is to increase (short-term) profits and what better way than to wash down the brand, expand markets etc... and that comes to a price that comes decades later... I believe that of all the car brands.. Ferrari was/is the most persistent in that area (also love the Lambo)... Had its strong marketing position, had F1, strong brand licensing... I mean I know personally of some brands that sold products for nothing due to the heavily licensing that went to ferrari, but it was worth to them since the brand itself raised the image due to the "association" with ferrari.... So it is 2020 or never... Basically if I don't buy it in 2020, chances are (strong ones) that I never will, in fact the cars are much less important to me now than they were in high-school where I knew every tech details down to a point, standard and optional equipment by YEAR etc... for certain cars/models at least... Would I love better engine, not sure... So in 2020.. what other GT options are there? Ferrari Roma also appear to be pretty appealing, inside and out and I also like the name and all... Is it ideal? Are you joking? Do I care? Not really You sure there are people that would buy this kind of car for ENGINE alone? I highly doubt it! Also I believe some might be forgetting that cars might go through same transition as watches in the 70s... After the QUARTZ came, the main purpose of the watches (displaying TIME! as punctual as possible) went up limitlessly.. but in 70s you could get that for NOTHING.. in some casio.. and luxury watch brand refocused on luxury and ALTERNATE (mech) movement... That is pure garbage in functionality terms (displaying correct time) but it has its market and reason.... like mechanical watches (might be) EMP/doomsday resistant or whatever... It is crazy, the more you pay, the less accurate the time - power of marketing I mean when I first found out that Rolex had FEW seconds delay per day... certified... I was just... WTF, while 20USD Casio was spot on, and do not get me started on smart watches, they are wonder but worthless vs same mechanical disasters - do not get me wrong, sill love the rolex, just saying that some things are not the way people think or reason - watches are not watches anymore they are bracelets with some "show" known as time display)...Also if I relate now to cars, since electric cars came, TESLA etc.. all this performance comparison went to ****.. Since some sedan/family looking (ugly - to some, yes) car can DRAG the s.. out of basically any combustion engine car.. again... in a drag... for fraction of the cost... So why even bother? Tesla Model S P100D w/Ludicrous have only one production car competitor Porsche 918 Spyder, according to this... and it costs x10 and limited... Yeah Ferrari still has some good performance on track and if you want to race it (on public roads?) like pre-admitting guilt... And also some fantastic aerodynamics that comes in hand just about the speed limit starts etc... Why would I buy it (Ferrari Roma)... because it looks like a proper GT car from one of the best car brands in the world... It is a pure "reminder" to oneself.. that he could drive anything and it is a good milestone, dailyreminder of what is possible... Yeah, w. "respect" that also. The attraction is luxury, image basically.. "you made it" at least in this smaller racket, rich people long left the ROAD (car c... measuring), went to SEA and AIR and donations/contributions/philanthropy If comfort would be main concern, MB S-class wins handsdown... IF performance (drag, which is what most people care/use anyway) then some TESLa or some other high-performance electric cars, also P. is introducing its electric version in 2020... I believe ferrari now became what ROLEX is in a WATCH industry.. Speaking of, some good old submariner would match it perfectly.. Almost like JB And yeah, one of the attractions to me is also that it resembles to proper GT car that BODND would/should drive... They haven't been able to recreate the GLORY of DB5 in the last 60 years... that is why they are re-appearing it in JB (also in some last) movies.. even in the last/next movie (No Time to Die - 2020).. not as an absolute GT but as what it was in those days.. can you imagine driving it in early 60s... I mean it is still glorious today, imagine than... BTW AM had issues then to let JB use it in the first place but they hit the spot, barely BTW, just my views... do not have time or the energy to argue with anyone, I might be completely wrong... Yeah I do have some edu/exp in the area, but let's leave that out atm... Those above are (also) my private vies, like them or not... Just wanted to share since I was registered here on the forum since 2005 and haven't posted much (but have red quite a lot over the years and I must say some posts/users were/are very inspirational, helping opening the mind of what is possible)... But now (maybe) have chances/possibilities to actually get a piece of this. Now (2020) or never... Will be clear pretty soon... My main primary target is to get it by/on May... Since I am from EU, that might even be possible (if paid enough premium)... I mean I am focused on access so I might get a hold on (rental first - longer, some have a good deals to they get a model fast) it by May and then maybe buy one myself later (since low chance of availability for buying it by that itme)...if all goes well... Yeah sure, it might all come up in flames (no pun) but this is now my primary target... Ferrari Roma... silver or dark grey but will take whatever is available since it is important for me to get it by the date I stated... BTW... Wouldn't buy it if it weren't a ferrari... I guess I am the only one that would basically buy it a great deal due to a fact that is a Ferrari... As for engine, are you joking? Specs are through the rood for those pathetic road limits that we have... Just hope the sound will be at least somewhat pleasable (hate some later high-performance engines, do not like sound of BMW M5 (F90) for example.. I do no track the cars (would rather go renting it on dedicated track like P has GT3 experience). I had some "issues" in the past due to speeding already and I do not wish/want to repeat it... Would love to rev some old(er) high-rev ferraris on some country or bay/ocean roads though... And have you checked the speed limits on ALL roads apart Germany in EU, US, UK or wherever... apart of some exceptions... To me having high-rev V12 car is like eating a VIAGRA in a PRISON... Hard-on but nowhere to put it (maybe)... Maybe good to j. from time to time... So I prefer the SUBTLE engine... Sure not sure I would like the SOUND of Roma that much but that might be a good thing... Because whenever I hear some EPIC sounds, like legendary F355 or also Maranello 500 (for GT), something comes out of me... "the devil inside" and I want to PUSH it HARD... This is my last post for 2019 or maybe ever Will reply/post IF I attain Ferrari Roma in 2020... Otherwise... take care P.S. Maybe some (more) GT car(s) coming from Ferrari (even in 2020) with "proper" V12 and they didn't want the market cannibalism?
the resemblance with the fish is there, alright, but it is a shark. Something like F12 and some others have(in my view). And to emphasize one detail(the grill) and to take it out without taking the hole picture (car) it's not right. Like if I say that I find side vent on F12 hideous , I wish it has like TR. Or the uterus that it had on the back... See my point? But I still like F12 a lot Just compare Roma with a Portofino and see how much elegance and stance there is. U have a right on your opinion, even if it is very negative one, but accept that many of us find it very attractive and elegant, and daring. You made your point, ok, but is it necessary to repeat your self 10 times? I like the sound of naturally aspirated V12 from 812 the problem is, I dont like the car that much to buy it. Matter of taste. I wish they come up with F40 again, but we will never see anything like it again. I like Pista a lot, but I need a car I can really use every day, and those back seats in Roma, no matter how small, are huge plus for me. That is why, God willing, i will get the Roma. Take care, all the best
View attachment 2868645 [/QUOTE] do u really thing that even in this photo the lights and the grill doesn't look beautiful?!
If you are such a great expert, I will now make a suggestion: Draw your own suggestion for a new Ferrari GT and publish it here in the forum! Then we can talk about it. So far, your criticism has not been constructive.
If you look at the last few Ferrari launches, they have a few things in common: (1) the cars look better in the metal than the photographs (2) Initial reactions are quite polarized; some people love them some people hate them (3) a few months later many of the people who hate the car’s looks change opinion. In comparison to previous launches the reaction to the Roma is the best so far. So in my opinion the car will be a resounding success , especially taking I to account that it will be the first “basic” Ferrari with a brand new interior. This will attract many buyers who want to drive the car and will appreciate proper ergonomics and modern infotainment Strad/Astrid and others have expressed strong opinions on the looks and the technology employed in the car (wet sump etc) but I think most buyers will look past them and buy this car. Well said. I think you’re right. Perhaps, the biggest problem with post-458 Ferraris have been the ever-increasing MSRP’s. The Roma brings the price back down to relative Earth, i.e. mid $200’s, where even older models like the F12 and 488 start to generate more buyer interest.
I'm surprised that there isn't an option for a black grill, but I'm sure the colors available will fit well with some of the darker colors. Do you have a PDF copy of the rest of the booklet by chance? I'm curious to see what the interior options are.

Pininfarina is OUT. This is a fact and it is unrealistic to think that there will be a return. By the way: Here is a side comparison between a 100% Pininfarina Design and a 100% Centro Stile Design. I have reduced the colors for a better comparison. Which roofline is better? Which fenders are better? Which design is cleaner? I bet that most people will choose the car from above. You make a Pininfarina-mythos from the past which is not the reality (although the 599 is a beautiful car too). I remember the year 1993 when the Ferrari 456 GT (100% Pininfarina design) was launched. Some people said that the car was too Japanese. Well it's always the same with people like you. I won't further discuss with somebody who spits on the great past and mythos of Pininfarina. Lack of background, I said it before.
