What say ye? 28 fee? 33 feet? 36 feet?

I'm talking about crusting the Gulf of Mexico. No oceans for me!

It has to be solo because I ain't got no friends.

Tex, you can buy friends on any dock! Show 'em the beer, they'll sign on !
40ft is a good compromise; big enough to go fast (relatively), small enough to control (watch out for that 150% gennaker when the wind pipes up tho.......):D

Lagoon 450 Cat, it's push-button sailing and lots of comforts!

Truth is -- when I drink alone, I prefer to drink by myself.

I have about 25K NM under me. A 35-40 cutter rigged sloop worked for me. I do like a cutter rig. Get roller furling and some type main sail stacker. Also a good windlass is a must and stay under 5' draft.

A nice Irwin 38' Mark II would work well.

Thanks. I have a lot to learn. Things have changed a lot since I learned to sail in the '60s. :)

I'm not an avid sailor but don't you want to get the most sea worthy boat you can get? There's so little ability to outrun trouble. Especially if you're solo.
I'd want one that can be demasted, turn turtle, get hit my a torpedo and still stay afloat.

My wife and I are in the market for an Oyster 655 or 675, both 67' loa. It will be singlehanding most of the time as one person is sailing/on watch, the other is sleeping while on passages. Just about any size boat can be single hand operated if properly set up.

Agree, plus the correct amount of experience. Singlehand sailing in open water should not be taken lightly in any sized boat.
