    I have finally traced the problem of my Tachometer reading low to the instrument itself. What sort of recommendations do people have for a shop to send my Tachometer off to. There was one in Palo Alto, California but I can seem to find the name or address.

    Palo Alto fixed mine last year. Forget the cost, but it was reasonable and they turned it around in two or three days. Check the archives in the old site for details. This is a very common problem on the 3.2 motor cars (328 and Mondial). Apparently there is a component on the circuit board that fails. They rebuild it and warranty it for a year.

    I just had my tach fixed at Palo Alto.
    It was a $158.00 including shipping and it took about a week.
    I had the guy on the smog machine check it and he said it read slightly high (100 RPM) at 3500 RPM, but the calibration on the tach only has marks at 500 RPM increments so I would have to say it is dead-on; and it is very responsive.
    You will be very happy with Palo Alto.

    Has anyone figured out which component on the circuit board they are changing? How about some one who is about to send off a tach take some before and after photos to see what it is that they are doing. After all, I am sure many of us could copy the fix and save lots of time and money. Knowledge is power as we say !!

    I would just send it to a instrument specialist...it is not that expensive a fix. Around $150 here in the States.

    For some of us not in the States its a mission to send it there and all the way back again for a small fix.

    I too would be pleased if someone could say what they are replacing so that i can point my local shop in the right direction.

    There must be someone on this outstanding site that knows how to fix the circuit board in these units, I don't have a problem with mine yet buy if it should happen, sending it from Europe to California would not be a great option. I do all the work on my cars myself, but electronics is something I am not able to troubleshoot, however if I know which bit goes wrong I can certainly repair it. We could all save on this job if we had knowledge of what part is replaced, and I for one would rather spend the money on fuel !!
