I was also comparing both cars, and was very close to pulling the trigger on a Casino White NSX. I actually think they’re pretty cool. I took my wife for a test drive, and within 100 yards she said “you’ll get bored and sell this in 2 months, you should buy the Ferrari.” She thought it was a nice car at $100k, similar to a GT-R, but definitely not “special.” I currently only have the budget for one fun car, so it needs to be good

Anyway, I thought it was pretty insightful. I ended up skipping the NSX and am now comparing the 458 and 675LT.

Well, this is certainly great advice coming from someone that's lost count of the cars he's owned. I almost bought the NSX, too. Same conclusion as you. Glad you're back, enjoy the spider! P.S. I occasionally miss my old stomping grounds in the Phila area, but not in winters.....

Get the 458. You will always want and wonder what ferrari ownership is like. Save the money and time and cut straight to the ferrari.

I'll never forget when my dad saw an NSX for the first time. He was visiting and I stopped by the Acura dealer. He looked at it and asked "why don't you get this? It makes so much more sense. It looks great and costs significantly less" He looked at the numbers and the style and thought with Honda reliability, this made so much more sense. He was the type of guy that typically wouldnt see the point in more expensive shoes with stylish leather, that sort of thing, but then I took him down the road to a dealer with a older 458 Italia. He sat in the car, smelled the leather, took a quick look and said "oh I get it. yeah get this instead." LOL

One other thing I would say is surprising is that I find the 458 more comfortable. Im little over 6'3" and fit perfectly in the 458 when the seats are right. The NSX feels a little tighter. I can get in but the seats and that larger center console seem to make it a little more cramped. We are actually looking to get both cars, a spider 458 (pending soon actually) and a Valencia red NSX possibly in a few years for my wife and I to split 50-50. There is something to appreciate in both cars. I think the NSX is a very well thought out car. It took so long to bring it to market but I think you see the benefits of that in the quality. I admit, I need to test one out still. With the Ferrari (specifically the 458), the exhaust note is half the reason to get it. This was also the reason for me going after a spider instead of coupe.

    Happy hunting!

Sound is hugely important to me too. It's the main reason I haven't "upgraded" my 458 to a turbo'd Ferrari (or McLaren).

Careful...so many on Fchat will demean you for your opinion that sound matters and the 458 is tops at it.

    LOL. ;)

Given that the OP is looking at 10 458's that have documented accident history/rear-ended and is now cross-shopping the 458 and Gen 2 NSX, it seems that finances are a dominant concern. First, you should know that the cheapest Ferrari to buy is the most expensive to own. The same reason that damaged 458 is cheap and the owner has difficulty selling is going to come back to bite you in the ass when it's your turn to sell. Buyers at this price point are very discerning and the vast majority wouldn't look twice at a 458 with negative Carfax/accident history.

Second, you fail to account for maintenance costs of a 10 year-old Ferrari which will accrue exponentially the longer out of warranty and more miles on the odometer.

Third, you're asking a bunch of strangers how to spend 6 figures on an automobile. Buy the car that speaks to you, it's already an irrational and money losing proposition and it's your hard-earned money and not ours.

If you don't have enough funds to buy a no stories, low mileage 458 preferably with 1 year extended warranty then keep saving. If you're worried about future out of pocket costs, buy the NSX it's still under warranty and the big discounts have depreciation built in. I saw a Valencia Red by the beach, it looked tits. But, IMO the NSX and 458 are at different levels. NSX buyer looks at R8 and 911 Turbo. 458 buyer looks at Huracan and 570/600LT/used 720.

oh no I mean we would share the driving. I guess I figured she would never drive the F car, I mean it's loud and really "exotic". People complain that the NSX feels too much like a regular Acura when you get inside it. I think my wife actually likes that. I could be assuming too much though. If she got to try the F car, maybe I would have to share that too.

NSX is such a misunderstood car. I’ll be the first to admit though, it’s not a Ferrari. Period. In some ways that’s better and in others that’s worse.

Can you explain what you mean? I think it’s a pretty good car, don’t love the back end, the front and side look good. But I also don’t like the V6 in my super car. If you wanted something brand new and couldn’t afford a Ferrari I guess it would be a good option?

It’s just different. It’s quicker than my 458 was. It’s bullet proof in terms of reliability. I think the proportions of the car are great and it looks great. I’d agree about the back end. The sound isn’t great but not terribleeee. It doesn’t inspire the passion of a Ferrari but there’s something to be said for a super car that just works with Acura reliability and if something goes wrong it’s a quick trip to the Acura dealer to fix. The traction is also mighty. I personally wouldn’t even consider a 911 Turbo (which I think makes sense to cross shop) against an NSX.

Overall, the 458 was a dream car for me. It’s still a benchmark super car. It’s one of the greatest ever. The NSX is even better in some respects which is amazing to me. It doesn’t have the soul and passion. Sometimes though passion makes one overlook deficiencies. My 458 was a 2011 and I was starting to have electronic gremlins, etc. scared me coming out of warranty. I’ll certainly sell my NSX one day, but if you’re looking for something fast as hell, reasonably priced, usable, reliable and head turning, the NSX is a great investment.

Also, just an FYI, the other day I was parked behind a 458 and far more people gathered around the NSX. It’s a rare sight and looks fantastic in the wild.

Didn't have a 458 but had a 360 6speed. Unbelivable car for looks engine passion. But I don't have much time to drive my cars most are in bumper to bumper traffic. So it went. Looked at 458s but nearest dealer is nearly 1000 miles from me. Also Ferrari factor weighs big in conservative town i am in. Went with NSX has 6 year powertrain warranty. Dealership treated me like a king and still does. No gremlins so far.

In perfect world would have both but NSX is ultimate DD supercar that fits my needs. Lots of bad press when it came out as people were expecting more original. But it is way ahead of its time
