Anyone have a recommendation on where to get one's car fire extinguisher recharged in Atlanta?

Not sure what side of ATL you are on. There is a place near me, up north in Bartow County. I think they primarily recharge the larger bottles, like the ones that hang on the wall at a store / restaurant, etc, but they may also do the smaller bottles. Family owned company, and in business for a long time.

No affiliation, but I see their service vehicles out and about frequently.

    Thanks, I'll check them out.

I wasn't sure if a car fire extinguisher needed special service compared to a general use extinguisher?

ABC is "normal", but I don't know either. If you call them though, and they can't do it, I'm sure they probably know another company that can.

I just worry a place would not have experience with the type of extinguishers Ferrari was using but say they can do it and then mess the extinguisher up in some way.

I had never bought a normal extinguisher, so I went ahead and bought an Element, which I keep behind the center console. Jay Leno seems to like it, so I hope it works fine if I ever need to use it.

While effective I think it necessitates the user being far to close to the fire. I'd like to see a demonstration of it's use on a large fully involved vehicle fire.

Thanks for the info, Jim. And like all types of "insurance" we hope we never have to use it!

I was having similar thoughts about being close to the fire from watching the demonstration video (on the Pelican Parts webpage to which I shared the link above).
If the car is completely engulfed in flames I would guess the Element won't be enough. But if it's completely engulfed the car is probably unsalvageable anyway?

Even the standard-size extinguisher used by most Ferrari owners will not stop a major fire; you would probably need a system installed in the engine bay to probably do that.

Each, powder, halon, AFFF have pluses and minuses. If ABC powder maybe a local fire company who recharges for the businesses and schools who recharge annually can do it. I use South Bay fire extinguisher in SoCal as an example for my business. Halon type and AFFF foam type can be done with the racecar guys like Winding road racing near Road atlanta raceway. But no one will charge a bottle that is too old. The contents expires after a year or so and the bottle like 10 years...you have to check. For a streetcar I use the Element extinguishers they are small light powerful and can be mounted anywhere without becoming a projectile in the car. In my racecar I have both a plumbed 10lb. AFFF system and the Element hand extinguisher for small stuff. As the poster above Pelican parts for Elements or directly from element. Pelican had them for 15% off a month back.

This one is over 10 years old so it sounds like the Element may be the best option. I'll keep the original in the car for period correct authenticity. Kind of wonder if I could have it emptied to make it lighter.
