Actually since you bring up exhausts,...the 964 and 360 stock exhausts rob even more of the beautiful sounds- a tubi or high quality exhaust is needed for the 360 as stock it sounds lexus like at low rps. I think to comply with sound levels is some countries (before they developed the 2 stage exhaust they put on the 430). Of all the cars mentioned here, the 360 is the one that most needs the stock muffler changed out ASAP.

I kept the stock exhaust on my 964, but did remove one of the mufflers with the Fabspeed "g pipe"- basically a straight flow pipe to bypass where the secondary muffler would be to give more sound.

At least the 993 had the optional motor sound package which opened it up a little (at least intake sound), and the stock 355 exhaust has the dual stage catalyst system. My 355 had a stock exhaust when I first had it, and surprisingly to me it wasn't that bad when you gave it some revs (but I did quickly get a tubi/hyperflow cats on the car just to get the best sound I could :))

If I had to own only one car and use it every day it would be the 993, if it's being used as a special events car, only nice weather, weekends then Ferrari 355 all the way.

The monies that air cooled Porsches are demanding is crazy, I see guys paying $70K for cleanish 993 c4's and I wonder why?

964's are $20K to $30K cars IMO, not $45K plus. Don't even get me started on RWB either lol.

Correction: I meant the 997 is more interesting to me than the 996!

I guess depending on your height/weight, but for a sports car to me the 355 is the better size. I love the 360 looks with the wide stance (especially from the rear), but the 355 is easier to scoot around the bends- taking up less "road real estate". If using as a GT/long trip car, I guess the 360 is roomier to move around, pack stuff etc (at least the coupe)

The 355 is noticeably tighter in the driver's food pedal area, although when it's warm enough that I can drive bare foot the heel and toe set up is perfect- as it was in the 360, just that the 360 has more room down there so can wear wider shoes.

Nice 993 Jim. Its also black. What made you go for the 993 over the 997? I remember a while back you were considering a 997, which is also a very nice car.

Thanks! The 997 was nice but felt bigger and heavier than I expected. (maybe it isn't actually heavier but that's the impression I got) After the test drive I wasn't really sure that I really liked it enough. I knew for certain that I liked the looks of the 993 much better.

I've only driven the 993 about a half a mile but it immediately felt -right-. Feels very comfortable and I really like the size of the car.

I was going to jump in and berate you for selling out on the 993, but damn, that's a nice car! Good job and enjoy. Completely agree on the 993 v. 997. Personally I like 996's but I'm a cheap bastard.

I owned a 996TT and now own a 355CH. I am a former PCA region President and currently an FCA region President. I have had access to a number of different Porsche's and Ferrari's across the entire spectrum. I loved my 996TT. With the GT2 nose and tail I even liked how it looks. The power delivery is awesome and I can't think of many cars I would prefer on a road trip. I had sellers remorse the minute the new owner got out of sight.

I got to drive a friends 993 C2 for half a day and one thing I am surprised nobody mentioned the floor mounted vs under hung pedals. I found myself never stepping down far enough on the floor mounted pedals and really didn't find them natural. The 996TT was the first generation of 911 with under hung pedals and I preferred them. I am happy my 355 has under hung pedals too.

I wish my 996TT had a better interior but that was the only complaint I had. The 993 was beautiful inside and out but I really wasn't hooked on driving it. My 355 is awesome on a track and the soundtrack cannot be beat. I feel more connected to the road in the 355 than any other car I have. Prices being equal I would take the 355 each time over a NA 993.

I had the exact same feeling when I test drove a 993. .. The pedals! Glad to hear I'm not alone.

Like anything else, you get used to the bottom hinged pedals pretty quickly, not too big of a deal

From 996 and on the cars have gotten bigger. I had a friend's 996 parked next to my 993 and the 993 is definitely smaller.

I had one too and I lusted after just these two additions from the GT2 and 3. I sold mine - after all it would have been heresy to sell the Ferrari - but I could have made the car into a much, much better machine than most Ferraris. In fact, I was half way there before wife drew the line on having two performance cars in the garage.

Since the original question was 993 non turbo vs 355... I have driven a 993 tip.. not my idea of a performance car..Heavy and slow... Now dont get me wrong 1st and foremost im a 911 guy. My 930 makes 530bhp. My 355 stick shift would get thrashed easily by the 930. The 355 is in my opinion simply the best naturally aspirated performance car bar none. The reality is the 355 compares with the 993 turbo. Ive also driven the 993 turbo, awsome car but to be fair the 355,believe it or not, is more the drivers, track car and in my opinion better looking. Tough choice so lucky i have both.

Yet in current markets a nice 993 Carrera 4S will set you back $100k, a 993 Turbo $150k+ and a nice F355 Spider only $80k...go figure.

    Discussing "current" markets with a thread that's 4 years old? o_O ;)

    Price-wise, there's no explaining a Porsche buyer.

The reason for that is very simple, the demand for Porsches is much higher.

Should we start reviving old threads just for kicks? Great way to kickstart 2020.

You guys are doing a great job so far lol.
I'd be willing to bet 3/4 of the threads in the first page are all resurrected for years ago.
    I'll make some new ones!

What? Is the age of this thread in anyway tied to the current markets of 355s and 993s?

Usually when you post a new thread you get heat for not searching for old threads. Now when you revive old threads you get heat for that too.... Is the 993 v 355 debate no longer relevant?

Comical stuff if you ask me.
