    Hi.

I was running a tyre inflator off the rear cigarette lighter. It suddenly stopped. Pretty sure I have blown a fuse. Changed the one directly under in in the rubber fuse holder. No joy. I see the front lighter had it’s own fuse in the passenger footwell.
Is there a ‘hidden’ fuse for the rear.
Is it on a shared fuse but not documented on the fuse board.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks.

The circuit for this is bizarre. I traced it to the right inertia relay. Where it goes from here is unclear (I don't know what the internals of the relay are).

There is at least one power line going into the inertia relay from the passenger footwell relay panel. However, this power circuit also feeds battery power to most of relay panel. There would be a lot more than a cigar lighter not working. Anyway, the relay panel is supplied with battery power from "maxi-fuses" in the engine bay (right hand side of car) under a black plastic cover. There is an 80 amp fuse and a 60 amp fuse (one of two). I doubt they are blown.

Did you try to run the tyre inflator from the front cigar lighter? Or test the cigar lighter itself (if you have one). Are the cigar lighters (front and rear) interchangeable?

(Irrelevant, but) The backlighting power for the rear cigar lighter also powers the rear number plate lights (as well as a lot of other things).

Ian- You get a whole lot more use out of that stuff than I do. I hate fiddling with electric circuits on cars.

    Sort of related.

My rear ashtray latching mechanism is not working / broken.
But for the life of me I can not find how to remove it
I've taken out the center arm rest tray and unscrewed all the bits I could see, but I don't see have to get the thing out.

Can anyone advise on how to get it out or how to fix/replace the latch.

If it’s the same as mine, you must pull out the plastic insert. Under that, you should see a single screw that holds the tray in place.

    That’s really helpful info.
Checked the inflator on the front lighter. It works fine. I have a charge cable for a phone I am now using as the tester. Works fine on the front.
Rear still has the light on when the lights are powered.
I will swap the actual lighter components to the front to establish if it’s the wiring / fuse or a component failure.
It’s always an adventure with Italian electrics.

I will post results once I have swapped all over

I found the center pin of the cigarette lighter socket to be a bit 'iffy', any chance that is the issue ?

I have tried cleaning that and 'prying' a few clips etc...
I will try it again and be a bit more 'forceful'....
    Thanks for the heads up!

This schematic shows a possible location of the items....

the fuse is definitely under the lighter in the back, I did not see a microswitch...
    I will post images later...

These Ferrari electrics are a bowl of pasta :)
For this reason I never stress the system, I make an effort to inflate my tires using my daily drivers system, never use my fog lights etc, roll windows down one at a time etc......no faith in these electrics. Call me paranoid, however, has kept me out of trouble
Hope you figure out this issue

I'm a long time Alfa sufferer. Spiders, Berlina, GTVs. Once pulled over 30 ft of sagging wiring out from under a dash with absolutely no change in vehicle operations!! Seriously, can't make stuff like that up. All that preface having been said....

Look for the little directional signs embedded in the system. Italian electrons have to be directed to know where to go. Otherwise they wander aimlessly of their own volition.

Ian (Qavion), I bow to your tenacity and dedication to circuit diagrams. Like Taz, I find no intrinsic pleasure in chasing electrical gremlins. I'd even rather replace fuel pump seals and replace suspension bombs!! Which means I am clearly in the right model forum!

    Hi,
Any news concerning the fuse of the rear cigar lighter....? I removed the ashtray and checked the connector: no 12V+
Hope anyone found meanwhile the fuse.

    Best regards, Jan

I just realised the signficance of the wiring diagram in post #3. It represents a combined fuse & relay holder. In theory, on left hand drive cars, if you can find the right hand inertia relay, the rear cigar fuse uses the same holder.

Here are some fuse/relay holders shown in the parts manual.

The only problem is, the manuals don't show where the inertia relays are. Those relays shown above are in the graphic above are in the passenger footwell, above the main fuse/relay panel. I don't know what function they have, but you could check all the fuses pictured.

Inertia relays: not to be confused with the resettable inertia switch.

    ooops.... yes they do.

38D is the RH Inertia Relay. In theory, the rear cigar lighter fuse is next to that on left hand drive cars.

EDIT: By the way, that's in the passenger footwell.

Jan, if you get the opportunity to look at that fuse in the passenger footwell, could you pull the right hand inertia relay and take a photograph of the fuse and relay holder. I'd like to get the orientation correct in my wiring diagrams.

    Thanks!

It's interesting to see that the 456M has these oblong shaped relays which are normally found on later model cars (F360, F430, etc)
