    Hi All experts, I bought a ferrari modena F1 from 2005, but I have a feeling that it is older. And it was reinforced by the fact that I saw in the passenger seat a metal sign that says "Ferrari F1 World Champion 1999 2000 2001" and other Modena from 2005 it says "Ferrari F1 World Champion 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003", but are there others in here who knows something about some things that i can check on a 2005 model, to see its really is a 2005 model ?

    Ok first off there is no such thing as a 2005 360. 2004 was the last model year. That plaque is just a plaque regarding the racing team. Run you vin on car fax or a site like that and it will tell you the model year (you won’t have to pay), and the sticker on the fender when you open the driver door will tell you the production date.

    I beg to differ with you. I owned a 2005 red/tan 360 Spider. It said 2005 on the sticker and the registration. It was the last run of the 360s and my research showed me that there were only a few hundred 2005s made, but it was most definitely a 2005. I owned it for 4 years before I traded it for a 430 and when the dealer took it back he listed it as a 2005 on his website.

    Take a look at the chassis number (last 6 numbers of the VIN).

    A 2005 360 Spider chassis number should be above/around 140000.

    My ex 360 Spider was a 2001 and the chassis number was 125348, to give you an idea.

    Only US spec cars have the VIN sticker on the door. Not Euro spec cars.

    But there should also be a metal plate inside the driver’s door with the production month (if your car is US spec). Like on this CS for example:

    This is great with this chat - thanks for the quick answers. I will try to look for the frame number in the door.

    I should have clarified "Modena", which is what he was asking about . If could be wrong, but only spiders were produced in 2005. I welcome clarification if I'm misguided.

    You say "cheated" in regard to the model year. Why? There is virtually no difference between the 2001-2005 model years. There is some difference between 2000 and early production 2001's, minor still, from the later 2001's to 2005's. The 1999 was the model year that seems to have more evolution going on and less in pollution controls, such as no precats in the headers.

    As far as value goes, model year only contributes a couple of grand. It's the mileage, condition and service history that really determines value.

    Now if your car has a forged VIN or one from another car tacked onto it and was really a salvage car, then you were cheated and someone committed a serious crime.

    What's the assembly number? It's a plate tacked onto the frame and would be obvious if it was taken from another car, or likely obvious if it was a criminal doing the butchery.

    That’s correct, they only made 145 spiders that year.

    Agree with John. My Porsche 993 is also a good example. Not much difference between years (Varioram began in '96) but the value of the car throughout its 4 year run is usually based on just what John pointed out: Mileage, condition, records, etc. and not the year of production. It's not uncommon to see a 1995 Porsche 993 sell for significantly more than a later year model in the run.

    Regards to the 360; there's virtually no improvements to my knowledge in the 2005 model. If indeed it is a 2005.

    Sorry, I was thinking “Spider” instead of “Modena” for some reason. Ferrari didn’t built any Modena’s in 2005 anymore as far as I know. They already started making the F430 Berlinettas.

    Okay here is the story - last week I bought this ferrari modena 360 from January 2005 only 23000km, in super good condition. It shines in the red color no scratches. But then I look down at the engine after I pick it up and see it has been blue. I call the dealer and he doesn't know anything. I also only got one key with and 1 red Immobilizer. Assembly is 49536

    Maybe first registration in January 2005?

    Assembly number 49536 is not a 2005 car, more like 2003 or so.

    Legally there is only one number that matters, the 10th digit of the VIN. Thats Federal law.
    1999 = X
    2000 = Y Some sources say 0
    2001 = 1
    2002 = 2
    2003 = 3
    2004 = 4
    2005 = 5

    This thread is a like the twilight zone. Attempting to determine the year of a car by some little emblem? And then throwing around accusations of "cheating"?

    Nothing more official than that occurred to you?

    Also, country matters...In some countries the cars are consider to be "model year" based on the year first registered. In others, its more "marketing" driven and the model year can start pretty much whenever the manufacturer decides. My bet is this car is not in the USA (I'm sure folks can determine where by the VIN, but I'm not going to bother looking it up).

    PS - fill out your profile so folks can see where you are or at least add that when posting about your car/questions.

    European VIN. Different countries have different methods of determining model year. In some it could be a 2001 and still legally be considered a 2019.

    It's my first ferrari and it's a big investment for me, I'm not saying someone cheats, but I want to know what year my car is from, the dealer said it was a 2005 model. So that's the only thing I'd like to know. When I was going to buy this car I went for the newest model year and low mileage.

    Thanks again for any reply.

    Look (or post a picture) of the oil disareator - if it has a flat top like a CS then it'll be a 2005.

    Which country are you in? In the UK it wouldn't be uncommon to see an earlier car registered as 2005 if it was imported in 2005.

    Absolutely, here it only matters to a dealer when it was first registered... I bought a 612 built in 2004, it it was first registered on the road for 2006, so its marketed as a 2006 612. If that happened the UK way in the US, it would probably even be called a 2007 612, as they always start marketing the ‘new years model’ the previous year.
