I have a 2014 Quattroporte GTS 3.8L TT. I’m getting a rattle at startup. Check engine light comes on at time. FoXWELL scanner reading code P129B00 Camshaft 1 lock Position. I’ve asked on the Masi forums and nobody has hear of the 2014 with bad variators. Here’s there clip. Opinions are welcomed

Boardwalk is a good dealer. Have you asked them?

They are your best choice to figure it out for a great many miles in any direction.

I’m a certified technician. I’ve gotten all my service done at Essence Maserati. I do personally do my own oil changes. I do them well before the oil change is due. I’ve always used Penn platinum Euro oil 5w-40. Basically essence couldn’t tell me what was wrong with the car. So I took it to Park Place due to Boardwalk being backed up. Park place diagnosed my car and this is what the advisor text me in the attached file

People wanted timing chains. They all swore timing belts were a bad idea and too expensive.

Chains are great, right up until they need to be replaced.

It’s flat out ridiculous if u ask me. The earlier Maserati’s were notorious for variator issues. U would think they would have corrected this issue but they obviously did not. 15k to replace some variators and timing chain. Smh ‍♂️

    UPDATE!
I unplugged the 2 solenoids on bank 2 (Driver side) and absolutely no rattle. So now I’m wondering if the solenoids are my only issue. Please help

    To address your statements

Yes , previous design has been addressed and once updated, I have not seen it happen again ( older models )
They have corrected it, what they cannot correct is how a vehicle is maintained.
From my experience, in the past 8 years, this will be the first v8 with variator issues due to design.
What I have personally experienced is on those vehicles that have not been properly maintained , if maintained at all, DO have issues, these issues are not limited to Maserati either. ( BMW, Audi, Lexus all come to mind )

I didn't ask earlier , are you the original owner? How many miles do you have on your QP? Any performance modifications ?

Since you are a certified technician, why don't you purchase the parts wholesale and perform the repairs yourself?
If you want, locate the parts kit required and shoot me a PM , we can discuss labor to install, I am always willing to help FCA members / FC members
or , since you have an established relationship with Essence , ask Carson if he can help you out with the repairs.

Good Luck with your quest to get back on the road soon!

    Hello,
i know this is a bit old thread but did you resolve the issue? Can you please share some updates on this?
I have a same 14 qp gts with 65,000mi and i started to have the exact same noise when cold start from a few days ago.
It doesn't make the noise when it is warm and it doesn't always make the noise even though it is cold. Maybe 2 out of 5?
I wonder how you resolved the issue.
I would appreciate it if you can share your experience.
    Thank you!
