Friend asked me this yesterday and I thought it would be an easy answer related to the 2+2. body style. I was somewhat surprised to discover Ferrari (on their website) and period road tests refer to the car as the 250GT 2+2 although it says 250 GT/E on the stampings. So is the E referring to the body style or is it a reference to the Tipo 128 E engine?

A google search and a search here didn’t turn anything conclusive up so thought I would ask the question.

There is a European car classification called "Executive" but I'm not sure that technically a GT/E would fall into that category (it is meant for really large sedans).

Though perhaps as Ferraris went, this was as close to executive as it got?

It's not the E from Enzo, nor from fErrari, but perhaps it's from ansElmo.

Matt, while I find your question earnest & intriguing, I admittedly don’t know the answer, but based on given replies so far, apparently others either don’t know it or just choose not to take your enquiry seriously.

Good luck with your search and should you discover a definitive answer and care to share it at least with me, you’re welcome to PM if you prefer ?

There was a Lampredi engined 250 Europa with 2800 mm wheelbase from 1953, which was replaced in 1954, with the shorter 2600 mm wheelbase, Colombo engined, 250 Europa GT.
