Hi, Yes I have searched this and have more gray hairs because of it and not finding a definitive answer Questions is how did ferrari achieve the wider track (50MM IIRC) on the 348 spider? Is the suspension different lengths/widths or hub thicker/different (therefore the same rear wheels specs as previous 348's) Or did they simply use different rear wheels with less offset to push the wheel/tire further out? Thanks
Thanks, I just spent some time on Ricambias site looking at part numbers and yes rear wheels different with different part numbers and twice the $ So the rear wheels on a spider would then have 25MM less offset per side than the regular 348 rear wheel?
No the opposite. It has a 25mm spacer added to the wheel to make it protrude that much. You can actually see the thickens from the inside.
Less is more... yes we are talking the same language, just using different words. Just found 348 rear offset is +68mm and spider rear wheels are +43mm. So the spider rear wheels hub is 25mm thicker/spaced to achieve the 25mm (less) offset difference. I'm doing all this because if picked up some 360/550 modular looking wheels with +45mm offset and trying to do some math to see if I need spacers or will need to mill of some material from the hub of these aftermarket wheels. Thanks
You will need to machine the wheels or risk the jacked up Camaro look I have heard people refer to it. Run searches and see for yourself, some love the look so to each his own its all good. But to achieve a more oem look if that what you want then it will need machining is all. I will machine BOTH front and rear 360 starfish wheels myself. 12-20mm is the range for rear milling those depending on the look given the tire size you want. I have a thread on this with cad diagrams. If you have trouble pm me. Found it. https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/index.php?threads/600577/ Sent using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I don’t have any great pictures, but here’s a recent one of my 348 with unaltered 360 modulars on it. It in no way looks like a “jacked up Camaro” (of which I’ve had many). It’s a nice aggressive stance. Machining the fronts would be asinine but you could take a little off the rears to suit your tastes but totally unnecessary in my opinion. I can probably get you some definitive pictures of these unaltered 360 modulars on my car tomorrow so you can get a better idea of how exactly they sit if you’d like.
Thnaks but dont go to the trouble. I had unaltered 360 starfish on my ex 90 348 TS and was happy with how they were on that car. The wheels I have now to put on this new 94 spider are wider 8.5 front and 10.5 rear than the starfish (7.5/9.5) I know I'll get theses new wheels to work, I'm just doing some math/research/thinking at this point until spring comes
Not really, it might just be the angle of the picture, they are 18” wheels with standard 360 size tires. More sidewall than those going to 19” rims. And yes I’ve been going with it for 5-6 years now and it looks great.
