Another morning with scrubbing bubbles. This time, instead of Griots engine dressing, I applied CeraKote to the wheel liner plastic, shock, sway bar, steering boot, fan heat shield, and the black painted frame. Turned out quite well - nice gloss, not too shiny, and quite hard. Have to be careful to not get it on a surface you don’t want it, and man does it stink.

Likewise. I just installed manifolds, exhaust, fluids change, cleaned it up. I truly enjoyed working on it and making it as perfect as I could.

I’m in the garage cleaning and waxing my 458 Spider. Now you’ve given me another job to do. . I really like how your inner fender wells turned out. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice work! I did similar wheel well detailing the week before last. Yours turned out better :) Never heard of Cerakote.

CeraKote works very well on plastic and rubber, but it can leave streaks on smooth surfaces.

What year is your 430? Did it come from the factory with the carbon fiber engine panels? Cerakote is great stuff but it can be tricky to apply correctly. Nice job!

Thank you. Yes, CeraKote isn’t for the novice. It does tend to streak on smooth surfaces unless it’s sprayed on. I’m amazed at how tough/durable it is.

My car is a 2006 gated manual spider with 20k miles, and yes it was ordered with almost every option (full carbon interior and engine bay), CCB’s etc.

Thanks for the info. I had a 2008 F430 with full factory carbon interior and engine bay. The only thing it didn't have was the carbon fiber rear molding. Only reason I asked is when I traded my car in, it sold to a person in CA. Thought it may have been my old car as I detailed that car to perfection. Looked brand new. Yours looks great as well.

Decided to detail my inner door... and maybe toss in a few stereo components while I’m in there.

Looks great, with the rare Spare tire option. Did you replace the straps?

Yes, had black leather straps made to closely resemble OEM, and replaced all the OEM ones.

The 3rd tire strap I feel is absolutely required due to him much the spare can move around. But I attached it to a frunk trim panel screw so it can easily be removed for the true OEM look.

I used scrubbing bubbles. Let it sit for 5-10 mins quick scrub with a boars hair wheel brush, and wash off with a hose. If the aluminum/titanium/magnesium/whatever-ium A arms have some light oxidation, simple green aircraft cleaner works ok. Dry ice blasting one of the best ways to get cast metal parts to look brand new without removing them from the car.

    On to detailing:
The easier way is to use a synthetic sealer (I use ‘Zaino all in one’) on the painted surfaces like the springs and sway bar. Then spray the entire area, wheel arch plastic, a-arms and all, with Griots engine dressing. Leaves a nice satin finish, but a couple rainy rides and it will wash off. Still, this stuff is gold for coating hard to reach parts/hoses, etc. I always have several cans on the shelf and liberally coat entire engine after washing.

On my car in this post, I used CeraKote ceramic coating on all suspension parts. It’s not that easy to apply, getting streaks on larger surface areas like the wheel arch are common if you are new to applying coatings. And if you do get streaks there’s pretty much nothing you can do about it until it eventually wears off, unless you use a fine abrasive. It’s semi-permanent, lasting for several years in my experience.

I coated my entire suspension with CeraKote - wheel arch, a-arms, hoses, both sides of undertray, engine facing side of rear diffuser, etc. Gives it a new looking semi-gloss appearance, and hard as nails. Nothing sticks to it. I can use a hose with gentle pressure through my wheels to wash away brake dust and road dirt.

Your car looks great! Every time I've attempted undercarriage/wheel well detailing my results were far less impressive. I usually used just regular car wash and P21S Total Auto Wash degreaser. I guess I need to try better suited products.

I don't know about the aircraft type but Simple Green will most definitely etch aluminum and make it permanently dull and sometimes almost black. It does an excellent job on dirt (not on grease) but you have to brush and wash off quickly in my experience with motorcycles. No problem if your quick with the hose. :)
