I'm thinking of having the windshield of my 2006 F430 Spider replaced as its badly pitted. Any recommendations on reputable local windshield glass shop would be greatly appreciated. Dan
I replaced a windshield in a car, not Ferrari. I wasn't sure who to use. I asked the Ferrari dealership who they used, I also asked John at Metropolitan Detail who did good work. I'm sorry to say I don't remember which one of those I used but they did a great job. I suggest calling one or both for a recommendation.
Dan, along with calling FoS, I would also try posting on the local FCA chat board for recommendations.
Did they do the actual replacement or send it to someone? When I called them it sounded to me like they didn't actually replace windshields but that was just my interpretation from what they said.
Similar to you, my understanding is FoS don't actually replace windshield themselves. They send customers cars to a local shop. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Here's an update: I called Metropolitan Detail (an excellent auto detailer by the way) and they said for windshield replacement they recommend - CarTech Auto Glass Inc. 425-343-6464 They are located in Edmonds but they do offer mobile service and can come to your home or office. They service Everett, Bellevue, Kirkland, Marysville, Redmond, Shoreline, Ballard, Lake City, etc. I read online reviews and they were all positive so they seem to do a great job. I will be taking my F430 Spider to them sometime in the next couple of months / when weather gets better and I will provide my reviews and feedback here and hopefully help others in need of windshield replacement services too. Thanks to everyone that chimed in. Dan Loyola
Just been looking into getting my 430 coupe windscreen changed, looking like more than i expected as they say they have to let the dashboard off to avoid damage to the leather when fitting the screen. Was this mentioned when you asked about yours. This is info from the main dealer who services mine
Yes, the job will be done per WSM. There are some guys here that did their own windshield replacement and they shared that they did not have to remove the dashboard and there were no damage done during the replacement process.
Another update: Mr. Mark Glenwood of 7 Lakes Auto Repair will be replacing my windshield. He's in Independent Ferrari mechanic in Seattle are. Does a great job, very experienced Ferrari mechanic, charges fair price and super nice guy. I highly recommend him. Dan
For windshield replacements I like Euroglass in Redmond. However, I had FoS do my 812 Superfast windshield. Cost about $6k.
That price you paid was probably when they used to subcontract windshield replacement to another local company. They now do windshield replacement in house. FoS quoted me $9,100.00 to replace the windshield of my 2006 F430 Spider. No thanks.............
I actually shopped the quote around. Ultimately to get the OEM glass you need to buy it from them anyway. Labor wise there aren't too many people I want working on my 812 so I was happy to have FoS do it. After all the entirety was covered by insurance anyway.
Sounds good. My new windshield is also OE Ferrari Glass. Mr. Mark Glenwood, former lead mechanic at FoS will be installing my glass. He opened his own shop in Arlington called 7 Lakes Auto Repair.
Sounds like he'll do a good job then! I really hate having these cars worked on, especially for glass.
Ten years ago Mark did the first engine out major service on my 355 when he was at FoS. I'm in Vancouver (WA) now and he just recently made a house call to replace the fuel pumps on my F430. First class. Highly recommended. I also might add that FoS took care of my 355 for the 8+ years that I had it. True, they are expensive, but my car received the best of care.
Yes, Mark is an excellent mechanic. I bow to his workmanship and knowledge, and super nice guy. I saw your article on the Ferrari Newsletter latest edition. Definitely a job very well done. When I had my 360 Spider, FoS maintained and repaired my 360 for the three years I owned it, and yes I can attest that FoS did an awesome job. Just very expensive. My first year of ownership I handed FoS over $20K to repair & maintain my 360. I'm not complaining. Just stating facts as I have all my service receipts. Mark was the one that worked on my car mostly & his workmanship and knowledge of Ferrari's is top notch. Im happy that Mark will be working on my F430 Spider.
