IMO they should have made the nose of the Roma look more like the Monza’s.

One more shot looking at the Ferrari backlot at Continental. I think the Roma grill although not as good as the fantastic Monza SP2 is rather nice and looks very good, especially on the white Roma show car.

Very nice. That black Monza #2 Carrera Pan Americana was also very pretty.

When is he going to show it up here :)

When I was a kid, there were three GTOs in the Midwest that would always show up a the vintage races and occasionally at Marchetti’s Father’s Day outing at Montefiori. I know it is a pipe dream, but I’d really like to see McNeal bring it to one of the smaller local events.

People I met here told me they used to see GTOs, LMs, TRs at Marchetti events...

Yes, all true. Joe had at least one SWB and an LMB as well. Angie Pabst used to bring the Meisterbrauser Scarab. There is some debate about the LMB’s chain of ownership these days. Summer 85 or 86 he had the Breadvan. I think he wanted $150,000 for it.

There’s a Ferrari book done in the late 80s or early 90s that gives a good idea of how many vintage Ferraris were within a 200 mile radius of Chicago. I have it at home. Can’t remember who the author was. I think the oldest Ferrari in the area was the 166 Stabilimenti Farina owned by Glen in Wisconsin.

He did have an LMB, I saw it when I was a kid. That place and the area around it was amazing with all the ACME warehouses full of old cars, mainly Italian.

Some question Joe’s “ownership” of the LMB. As the story goes, Joe got the car from a questionable source. My father knew Joe very well, and I can’t see how joe would have knowingly bought a stolen car. Unfortunately, he’s dead and can’t defend himself. There’s a whole thread about that car in the vintage section.

Yes I read that also. But he did have the car, stolen or not. I fell in love with that car. Always thought his Breadvan was a strange looking beast. Very thin aluminum easy to dent.

I saw that 166 at a Mecum auction in 1990. The car wasn't for sale. He he drove down for show and the local paper had a big to-do about it.

And as a young fool, I didn't look twice at it. I was too focused on the Testarossa and 328 bidding.

    God I miss the 80's

    Joe
