1967 Ford Mustang GT500 prototype built new in 2008 by Panoz for Equus Automotive. Utilizes a Dynacorn body, Esperante chassis, and Ford GT500 drivetrain. 100% new parts in 2008 and just under 4000 mile today. 500hp Supercharged V8, 6 speed manual, Brembo GT500 brakes. A/C and heat. Interior is stock 2008 Mustang with the dash narrowed to fit the early body. Wheelbase is longer than stock 1967 Mustang to get the engine behind the front axle line. Utilizes saddle tanks for fuel in front of the rear axle so no rear seat. Motor is stock GT500 including catalytic converter and Ford electronics. This car was used as the test mule for EPA certification of the saddle tank setup prior to the new EPA rules for micro manufacturer exemptions. Project was later cancelled and the car was tucked away in a warehouse until I was able to purchase it a few years back. Interesting piece of automotive history to preserve or use it as the platform to build a restomod that makes all other restomods obsolete.

If they just left the dashboard alone without installing that ugly plastic thing, that car would be absolutely hot, hot, hot.
I wonder if it still could be done.

Titled as a 1966 Mustang (66 is the cutoff for emissions testing in AZ). Modern dash would be too wide without cutting it down and they are using all of the modern A/C and heat components so you couldn't squeeze that behind a stock dash. This car was the prototype test mule, if desired a good upholstery shop could dial in the interior for show. Priced almost 1/4 of build cost.

Car has an Arizona assigned vin. This was built from all new parts so no vin to swap. Trunk signed by the folks at Panoz and JRD.

so it's a Panoz VIN number (Esperante chassis)?

my understanding is Dynacorn bodies need a "donor" VIN number assigned.

Panoz vin with special series for Equus so not a esperante vin. Vin is 0001 of 1. Project was shelved after Ford got wind of it. As an aside, you can build a Dynacorn car just like any kit car and get it titled, you don’t have to kill a rusty Mustang.

No, an Arizona assigned VIN number is similar to a california assigned vin number.

Bascially the state of arizona has blessed the car after going through an inspection and recognizes it as a kit/replica/homebuilt- Special construction

They also issue a title that can say the proper year and even the proper make. The model will always read SPECON for special construction

Totally legit and a nice and not always easy process to navigate/acquire.

Pretty cool. Would be a nice add to my Pony Collection but NY can be tough on these types of cars from a registration stand point.
