I have a 1988 Datejust, and it has "open 6s and 9s." I never paid it much attention, but recently a guy told me that this was something of note. Can anybody enlighten me?

I will never sell the watch because I received it from my parents when I graduated Law School. But, does this font make it any more valuable?

Period correct for a vintage piece and sought after by collectors. Worth more? Only to nutty vintage collectors. (guilty as charged)

Wait until someone starts talking about “flat top 3’s” or “hooked 7’s”.

LOL. Hard to think of a 30 year old watch as "vintage."

In my hometown--very small town--a jewelry store was closing after about 70 years in business (this was about 10 years ago).

My mom went in to the store, as he was selling things at a discount. Knowing I am watch fan, my mom spotted a nice gold watch. A Hamilton 14K gold with gator band. The store owner told her it had been in the store since 1941, and it was priced at $7, which was its original price. My mom bought it and gave it to me. Original box, band, papers and price sticker. I changed out the band to keep the original but I love wearing that watch, even though it is a cheap Hamilton. I turned down $1500 for it from a local Rolex dealer, when I wore it into the store.
