1990 Mondial T gearbox (same as the 348). I know that it's not the transmission fluid drain plug, as I've changed the transmission oil last year. I have been noticing the occasional drip of oil on the garage floor so I am investigating the underside of the car today. The plug/nut that I am pointing to in the photo turns freely and is not tight. Many thanks in advance.
It could be #3 (138739) on the diagram below. It is called "Rocker Arm Fastening Screw" (gear selector assembly) and there is a washer (#7) and an o-ring (#2) on it. It should not be just turning unless its threads have been stripped - easy to do as the body of the bolt is big but its threaded portion is much smaller diameter, probably M8. So, one may think "big bolt (hex head), big torque". Image Unavailable, Please Login
This is beginning to sound like a case of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" for right now. I'd slap a sticker over it to prevent falling out and watch it like a hawk for leaks and put it on your "to do" list to take care of later when working on the gearbox and have replacement parts on hand. Just an observation..The rocker arm is part 1 and it looks like the bolt part 3 is secured by a nut part 6. If indeed that is the bolt thats loose someone may have previously tried to undo it by mistake so loosening the nut on the other end. If it is a lock nut of some type ,which is very likely in my experience, it may stay where it is and not unwind any further. Fingers crossed. Alternatively, as mentioned ,something may have stripped.

Very good observation, I did not notice the locknut on top. In that case, everything should be fine. The bolt is probably designed so that, when the nut is fully tightened, it can still rotate in order not to jam the selector crank and the o-ring is sufficiently compressed against the housing. The bolt should therefore not be unnecessarily rotated as the friction may damage the o-ring. here's a detail from the workshop manual: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Looking at the diagram carefully, this bolt will never fully tighten into the gearbox casing. The bolt is connected to the nut and, while these 2 can be tightened, there are no threads on the bottom of the bolt, or on the gearbox case. So the bolt is not supposed to tighten into the aluminium casing. On my car this bolt is tight but does turn if I put a socket on it. It looks like this is correct. Hopefully this will be useful for anyone else who might try to tighten this nut on their car!
I remember this topic from an older thread. If we are talking about the same plug, the thread below should apply. See the second post for the answer (Spoiler alert - Don't touch it). https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/348-oil-plug-ok-to-replace.480735/
No... I "believe" that's different the oil pimp pressure bolt is behind a different plug. Sent using FerrariChat.com mobile app
