Looking for a quartz movement to fit my original dino Veglia clock.
Find a Fiat 124 or 2000 clock for a core and it should be a simple swap out of face and case. There are two areas to take care, the chrome trim surround and the position of the 2 clock face mounting screws; there are two different distances. If you ruin the chrome trim, call Rutlands and ask if they have any dead 308 gauges with that same trim for $125 - don't ask me how I know
Yes, cores used to be plentiful on Ebay but not so anymore. In fact, complete Fiat dash clusters are bought just for the clock and most ads state the clock in the title as it is that desirable. Try this one, remove outer trim, rings, hands and face then swap out and voila, you have a Quarzo Elettrico https://www.ebay.com/itm/Fiat-124-Spider-Clock-Black-Ring-New/232654780900?
Scott, I found a clock, THX. I left the movement in the new can as you said, replaced everything else with the original. The only problem on the quartz clock the adjustment stem is set a little higher on the #6 so the spring action is limited by the original face. I did not want to change the hole. I just need to manually pull the stem out now, no biggy! The clock you showed has the stem at 5 o'clock won't work. Thx
Scott; The face of the clock not the crystal the hole for the stem is too low, so I needed to bend the stem alittle to fit! I did not want to drill out the hole! THX for the help.
Got a photo? I've not run across what you're describing I've seen face mounting screw holes at two different radial distance from center but not the clock adjust knob hole
Scott I did not do the work. The person who did the work said he needed to drill new holes for the face as you pointed out of which I saw but he did not want to drill new hole on the face to better fit the adjusting stem. That would have left a visible hole where the stem originally was. All is good except I have to pull the stem out manually due to the stem binding on the face hole!
Yep - the later Veglia plastic molds had 4 risers for the two face mounting screws; they could adapt for either near or far face holes. Once I actually did drill 2 new holes on the unused far risers because it fit the original style face and I'd avoid any face work. You did it the other way, made the face fit the riser mounts. I'd slap some electrical tape on the back of the old holes to cover them and call it good!
Scott, You're misunderstanding what was done. The two face mounting holes were more toward the center on 3-9 on the original face. So new holes needed to be drilled on the new movement side for the proper screws of the original face. The problem was the stem hole, was lower than the original hole. Best leave it alone than drill a new hole. All good, life is a compromise!!
