Hello everyone and thanks in advance. I am considering the purchase of a scud with the carbon package. It is a CPO car with the ability to purchase the 1 year power warranty. It seems the car is in great shape with the exception of the common headlight hazing (mild in this case) and also some slight fading in the engine bay carbon. I've read many different things on this topic and was curious if these are issues the CPO should address or pick up on. I assume the power warranty does not cover these.

Aside from complete replacement are there any easy fixes for both of these issues or preventative measures one can take to minimize it continuing in the future?

oh yeah the car also has some minor sticky button stuff but my guy here can fix that fairly easily.

    Thanks!

No easy fixes for carbon blemishes. It's usually discolouration of the lacquer, which means stripping the part and sending to a specialised body shop. If the panel is the air box or engine bay then that's probably OK - you could probably just get a ew unit - mine was the inlet manifold and I was quoted £4000 for the work.
Happy to,report its got no worse over time though

headlights need to be resealed, about $1600. Carbon engine bay parts have to be sanded down and reclear, as long as yellowing is on the clear and not on the carbon yet. Once it's burnt on the carbon (looks reddish) there's no way to fix it. Probably better just buy some quality aftermarket replacements for less

Resealing the carbon headlights is not a guarantee that it will remain haze-free; it's going to be an ongoing thing that will need to be readdressed through long-term ownership. Mine have lasted 3 1/2 years so far since the last reseal, but slowly but truly, the spidering/hazing of the lens is creeping back. Replacing with another set of oem headlights isn't a permanent solution either, but it's been nice to have an extra pair while the other is being resealed so there isn't any downtime for driving the car...

Heat temporarily improves it, but not 100%. Also, the hazing comes back in a few weeks. I plan to take my scud in for "the treatment" soon.

Many thanks to all of you. This forum is great. Great info, nice people. All of your posts seem to confirm the truth. These headlights (carbon ones) will continue to haze. I believe the best solution for me will be a local shop that removes and addresses the hazing. I’ll deal with the carbon hazing in the engine bay over time. Stickies on the interior are almost the most annoying thing but I’ll deal with that too. Price to pay for a super raw car that will never ever be produced again!

My experience as well...but at five years, it is barely noticeable that it is coming back...so at least in my case, it is coming back at a slower rate. This was a headlight opened and cleaned by Premier autobody or something like that in California. They removed the UV coating on the inside of the cover if I remember correctly, in order to get all the hazing off. I had another headlight cleaned by some other outfit, they did a terrible job, said they will not remove the UK coating and that headlight looked bad as soon as I got it back and looks even worse now. I need to send it to Premier. But my plan was to wait until the other gets bad enough and send them both. But that could be at least another couple years.

Is this hazing of the glass reason enough to not show up at car shows? I’ll have to think twice about showing up at Enzos Birthday Party at the Petersen.

I repaired a pair of F430 Intake Boxes. It took many hours, but I was able to fix them. Half way through, I was cussing myself for taking on that project instead of paying someone to do or just buying new boxes.

The blemishes on my inlet manifolds originally concerned me, but knowing it was out of my ability to fix, and an astromical quote, I've learnt to live with it.

Does anyone have the contact information for Premier or someone else in Northern California that provides this headlight cleaning and resealing service? I have applied heat to mine a couple times which helps a lot but did not work completely. It does come back so I would like to find a better solution. Thanks.

Call them first to discuss, the owner can explain their process and turn around time. It was about four weeks when I sent my driver side headlight in five years ago. That was why I tried another outfit a year later to do my passenger light. But the second place (while quicker) did a terrible job. There was still fogging on the inside. When I complained, they said anything more aggressive would remove some claimed UV coating on the inside of the cover. What's the point if it isn't completely clean? Anyway, the UV coating is not important because the driver side that Premier did still looks fine, no problems, other than after five years, there is some faint traces starting to come back, but nothing like it was before.
