Looking for a used pair of this flash to pass light that are only equipped on the Euro QV, US QV doesn’t have this. I’m converting my US QV front grill to the Euro style. Any help would be awesome, thanks. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Preferably the same as the one on the Euro QV, or the one on the pic above if not, something similar.
Mike, those are Cibie Aiport Series 35 fog lights. Very hard to find. Contact Daniel Stern Lighting, he would know.
Hi Mike, I went looking for the Cibie 35's for my English 81 GTSi. It took me ages to get the correct ones with the chrome backs. I bought a NOS pair with the painted black backs (which may be correct for QV, I don't know) until I eventually came across a pair of correct lights at a substantially higher price. My learnings are as follows, the correct lights should have clear lenses, not diffused. I'm not sure whether french cars etc had the yellow fog lenses or not. The biggest issue i found is that a lot (most) of the lights for sale don't come with globe holders. These globe holders are NLA and have been for many years. to make it worse, there are two types of globe holders, a shallow depth (which the 35 require for correct beam focus) and a deep which a different model (cant remember the 78?) required. I hunted every corner of the globe for the shallow holders for the 35's with black backs that I bought with no success. I eventually found a gentleman in Ireland that had a selection of NOS of the deep holders which I bought a couple of sets from just so the 35's would function as Flash To Pass lights as designed, even though the focus wouldn't be correct. It was about 2 years later I found someone selling NOS 35's (with chrome housings) in Ferrari boxes complete with globe holders and I bought them to finish the car off. I have the NOS black housing 35's with globes and deep globe holders, that I am more than happy to sell at a very affordable price if you're interested. Send me a PM and I'll photograph for you etc. Only downside is shipping from Australia wont be super cheap Image Unavailable, Please Login
Mike ... I did this conversion about 10 years ago and looked for what seemed like ages but, never found the "clear lens" airports. I did find chrome backed "diffused lens" airports and used those. I know not the same, but was close enuff for me anyway. The thing I never found was the mounting brackets for the lights. The euro QVs have an L shaped bracket that is welded to the bumper supports on each side ... I made my own ... see pic. I got the fiberglass bumper from eBay and made my own mounting brackets for it. The grill came from an F Chat member, but can't remember who now. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wow Bob! Your car look excellent, great job. Anyway I just finished painting my front bumper and yesterday I ordered the front grill in Black anodized so mine will look like yours except mine will have the black grill. I’m glad you mention about the bracket for the lights because I need make one or if you have extra one or if you can make me one I’ll be happy to pay you for it. Also if you can or like please call me anytime at 559-380-8566 By the way if you’re still interested, I found this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/164075968840?ul_noapp=true Mike
Just wanted to update this thread, first thanks to all that assisted me like Crowndog with my project. I finally was able to complete a set/pair of the CIBIE 35 airport with chrome housing. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Like this. I got the 10” galvanized bracket from Home Depot and cut one side to size. I’m not installing the light as I just recently got my Euro grill, I need to measure how far the light is from the grill before I drill the hole for the lights mounting. Are you sure you’re not going to get crazy amounts of vibration and the lights jumping with that much arm extension?
Yes I’m sure, the bracket is almost 1/4” thick and it’s very sturdy plus, I still need cut it shorter as soon as I get the right measurement and drill the hole, this will make it even more sturdier than what it is now.
I've had my front off for a while, and can see the mounts. I'm pretty sure the factory one have a gusset. I'll see if I can find a pic...
Here you go They extended the top radiator support tube and then mounted it off that Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my SM-N920I using Tapatalk
Yes Patrick, the euro are definitely way different than the US, thanks for the pic, and here’s better view of the Euro mounting bracket Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just to make sure this bracket doesn’t vibrate, I added an extra diagonal bar from the top stud to the end of the bracket and when I bolt everything tight, I couldn’t Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login move it, not even 1 mm, that thing is rock solid.
That is the plan, I may paint it tomorrow. I already painted the bracket for the grill. And as for the headlights, those are HID H4 lights. . Image Unavailable, Please Login
