So, its been as cold as **** here in Chicagoland. With the hope of lifting my spirit until springtime arrives here is my new vanity plate. View attachment 2894301
The plate looks great and I really like your garage floor. Maybe another month or so to get the cars out in the Chicago area. Can't wait.
Ok sorry I wasnt sure. Yes, cyberdriveillinois.com Then enter “pick a plate” in the search box. You must first have regular illinois license plates to apply for vanity plates.
Also, there are lots of restrictions in terms of combinations of letters and numbers. I've had the same plate through three different cars now, but it still fits: REVS HI.
Not trying to defend the DMV, but was it because many variations of Countach sound like a vulgar term for the female anatomy?
Actually, it’s for my Corvette 1969L 89 that I could not figure out letters numbers combinations, 99% we’re not allowed

So it would seem based on this info L891969 would be ok if available. Likewise, LLXXXIX would work. L89469 or LXILL89
Not sure, he would need to try. availability may also be based on the type of plate .. i.e vanity , antique personal, etc
For those of you who have antique plates, and as long as the plates are with the car, you can display a plate on the car that "represents" the year of the vehicle. I had plates made up from a internet seller for both my 87 328 and 59 MGA Twin Cam. Since my Ferrari was first registered in Florida, I had a 1987 Broward County plate made with just has the numbers 1987. For the MGA I had a 1959 Illinois plate made with TWNCAM. I also keep a copy of the Illinois law with the antique plates, because the law is not well known. To that point, a few years ago I just finished some maintenance on the Ferrari and briefly accelerated to 10 over the speed limit. I was stopped for going 60 in a 50 zone by the local police. The officer came out of his car and said we have a problem, your plate does not match your car. I said well that is because it is not a real plate. I could see him thinking now what! I asked can I get out of the car and give you the real plate. I handed him the antique plate registration, the plates, my insurance along with a copy of the law. He got in his car to run the plates and by that time another patrol car arrived. He got out of the car and said, as I knew, you have a clean record and the paperwork is in order. He read the law and said he had no idea what I had done was legal. Both officers and I talked about the car, he gave me a warning and I was on my way.
Gerry, Yes, that law is rather remarkable because in a state that requires two plates I am so surprised that Illinios law allows antiques to display random, unregistered historic plates. Think about what an unlawful person could do, ie. Ipass toll roads, and other potential crimes without the possibility of ever being identified by your license plates. Wow. I had 1968 Illinois plates on my 1968 Chevelle and I always thought that was cool.
Jeff, True enough, I only run one plate. I have added the made up plates to my iPass account. I suspect the number of antique plates in Illinois is a small percentage of the total. Likewise for the criminal element that just wants to avoid tolls. In any case it seems like one of the very few positives about Illinois.
We are getting rid of our 2 plate rule in July, and our vanity plates have far less rules...easy to see what's available at oplates.com I do realize this is the Chicago forum..but thought someone might be interested
