They have gotten close to a patient zero candidate, BTW. Patient 1 had contact with a Chinese national, but he never tested positive, so maybe just a carrier. I don't want to go P&R here, so I'll let you search for yourself.
Coronavirus: Venice Carnival closes as Italy imposes lockdown https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-51602007 Italian officials have cut short the Venice Carnival as they try to control what is now the worst outbreak of the coronavirus in Europe. Authorities in the Veneto region said the event would end later on Sunday, two days earlier than scheduled. Italy has by far the highest number of coronavirus cases in Europe, with 152. Three people have died. Italy has imposed strict quarantine restrictions in two northern "hotspot" regions close to Milan and Venice. About 50,000 people cannot enter or leave several towns in Veneto and Lombardy for the next two weeks without special permission. Even outside the zone, many businesses and schools have suspended activities, and sporting events have been cancelled including several top-flight football matches. What is happening in Italy? Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte announced on Saturday that "extraordinary measures" would come into force to try to stem the rising number of coronavirus cases. He said the quarantine restrictions could last for weeks. Police, and if necessary the armed forces, will have the authority to ensure the regulations are enforced. Angelo Borrelli, the head of Italy's Civil Protection Department, told reporters that 110 of the confirmed cases were in Lombardy, with 21 in Veneto with others in Emilia-Romagna and Lazio. Officials reported a third death on Sunday, an elderly woman from the town of Crema suffering from cancer. Italian officials say they are still trying to trace the source of the outbreak. Suspicions initially fell on a businessman who had returned to Lombardy from China, but he has tested negative, Italian media reported. The Venice Carnival had been due to close on Tuesday but regional president Luca Zaia told Sky TG24 television on Sunday that it would be suspended, along with other events, in a bid to combat the virus. "From this evening, we plan to stop carnival and all sporting activities until 1 March," he said.
La Scala is closed, will Monza take place? Will this shut down Modena? I can imagine Vietnam, Oz, Japan and maybe Monza being canceled.
This is not a problem that will go away in a few weeks or months. The Spanish flu ran across the globe from January 1918 to December 1920.

Vettel is reported to be planning to 'self isolate' in the next few weeks running up until the Australian GP. However this is regarded as 'normal behavior' for the reclusive racer.

The Vietnam and Bahrain Grand Prix races will go ahead as planned despite continuing concerns about coronavirus, Formula 1 says. Chief executive Chase Carey said "all systems are go" for the race in Hanoi. "The Vietnam Grand Prix will take place on 5 April in Hanoi. And to anticipate another question, we do plan to proceed with the race," Carey said. Vietnam GP boss Le Ngoc Chi said the country was "ready" for its inaugural race. "We can't wait to welcome the the world to Hanoi very soon," Chi said. https://www.bbc.com/sport/formula1/51652153
Which doesn't mean much for F1. Their football/soccer league 2020 season has only been delayed till March, if that gets delayed again then we could start worrying about the Vietnam GP being postponed. https://news.zing.vn/virus-corona-khien-cac-giai-bong-da-viet-nam-tam-hoan-post1042093.html
It only takes 100-200 infected individuals to seed an epidemic, looks like Vietnam will just be another big red dot on the pandemic map. I’ve resigned to the fact 40-60% of the world will get corona at this point, coz every country is dealing with it inconsistently and it’ll just be one other thing to deal with during flu season.
That's what they all say, until sh*t hits the fan and the numbers spike instantly. If you monitor this map on a daily basis more and more new dots appear pretty much every other hour. Just the day before there were no dots anywhere near africa...but now more and more are popping up https://www.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6 it only takes 1 person.
The 2020 Geneva Motor Show has been cancelled, and the Japanese fear for the Summer Olympics now. Rumours are that car production could come to a stop in Europe because of the shortage of components from China where the factories are closed. I think globalisation will need a serious rethink.
Did I say that ? I only find astonishing that an outbreak on the other side of the world could paralyse car production here. Maybe that the idea of outsourcing parts where they are the cheapest, regardless of location, isn't a wise decision.
New restrictions in place but F1 circus will continue. https://formulaspy.com/f1/vietnam-imposes-14-day-quarantine-on-italian-travellers-68384
so scuderia personnel will go but then pretty much miss the Vietnam gp and the next two coz of quarantine? Lololol gg gift wrap the championship to Mercedes already.
Oh for flips-sake, my best laid plans 3 months ago look like they are going up in smoke. Korean Air cancelled my leg out of Hanoi,...
