You know, many things about sports cars and the sports car market has changed.
The fact that speed sells isn't one of them.

Well my current winter driver is a Tesla Model 3 performance. Had it for about 2 months now. Will go for sale in April and will be replaced with 458 :)
I think that tells enough about current electric cars ;)

But back to 458 and 488. Both are great in my opinion.

I don't think your conclusion is by any means a certainty but if the economic situation did turn globally bad then probably not.

I merely made a comment which can be the reason for not updating.

Sure there are many as you quote billionaires but to them I would say build your own Ferrari. I would if I had a spare 5 million.

And the Devil ? Can't comment on that as my wife and I are an effective team and enjoy our toys together

That’s how I feel about turbos and auto transmissions. Not that I don’t own some of those- and for me- the most entertaining road car is normally aspirated with a manual transmission. My modern Ferrari’s are great sounding, beautiful, and thrilling video games. Turbos are largely just a reaction to mandated emissions regulations- which is just a slippery slope to cleaner and faster electric cars.

Not everyone. Young people don’t need watches- unless they’re computers. iPhones and the ilk tell better time.

Yes- speed sells. And electric cars are way faster than turbos. Normally aspirated ICE will remain more entertaining and therefore will likely be in higher demand. The fact that 488’s are dropping close to 458’s is probably indicative of this demand trend. IMO

Personnally I am really amazed by the fact the 488 are still slightly more expensive than 458 given all the loudly shouting that the 458 is the best with no possible discussion... not to mention the Pista that are for sale for much more than Speciale (I am just waiting for the price parity between Pista and Speciale to buy a Pista :D )

Is a speciale really that much better than a standard 458 for normal usage (no tracking)?

It may make sense for people who chose the 458 over the 488 ;)

I think the answer depends on how you define "normal usage". If your normal street use includes a lot of spirited mountain or back country runs then I think the Speciale is better than the regular 458. If the usage is mostly street and highway driving then I'd argue that the base 458 is better than a Speciale. I'm not talking about aesthetics or depreciation, I'm talking about using the car.

As a car to enjoy in general, yes very much so.

Ferrari made some significant changes to the Speciale that makes it a much better car.
It does not suffer from the stupidly sensitive throttle. It has a less jerky and smoother shifting transmission. It has much better brakes. It has a less shouty and more natural sounding exhaust.

Forget all the stripes, weight reduction, aero, ugly "pectoral fins", increased power, and,all the rest of it. As a car, just a car, it's a better car.

And improved the styling 100% . I laugh at the moustaches Thank God they found better ways to improve down force. If the Speciale was the 458 body I would have overlooked the missing side vents like all the previous models and bought one. But also I gave it a miss.

I tend to agree. Cars of this caliber are entertainment, not transportation. It used to be that cars had to be faster to be more entertaining, but we have reached the limits of speed for street driving. A 1000 hp car on the street isn’t really that much more entertaining than a 500-700hp one. Maybe even less so because you need to exercise so much restraint.

Looking to add a V-8 spider to compliment my 2010 599 HGTE and I must say the used 488 spiders are a pretty compelling buy versus a similar 458 spider. Already have a V-12 NA, so turbo is fine with me to change things up and would rather have the improvements of the newer generation along with some additional free maintenance plus an extra 100 hp and gobs of torque is always fun. If I already owned a 458, don't think I would trade for a 488 at this point.

I wonder which is the best daily driver? 458 or 488?

Most people are stuck in some traffic jam almost everyday anyway.

488 without a shadow of a doubt imo. More comfy, better ride, much better gear ratios for daily driving etc.
