    Can any one help?
I have just purchased a new clutch release bearing and retaining spring for a Dino 246 (1973).
The problem I have is, how does the retaining spring hold the release bearing?
To me the spring does not fit into the machined groove on the release bearing so when the bearing is moved on the shaft the spring just rides out and does nothing.
I would have thought that the release bearing and spring stay together as a one piece item once fitted.
If anyone has any images of the setup that would be great.
    Regards,
    Jim.

I haven't been in that part of the car for some time, but generally, the bearing is pressed onto a carrier. The carrier is then fixed to the "arm' with a spring - allowing it a bit of flexibility when contacting the clutch.

Jim, I think you are on the right track. I machine a wider groove for the spring before we ship to our customers because "what you get" from the factory does not fit.
