I didn't get any further than looking at the pics and clocking the Volvo rims.....that did it for me. Actually was this the thing that came up some few month's ago and a couple of us thought..hmm RHD for a $hundred? and some mention of the interior trimming at the ignition key area or was that a carby Conv?
Yep. And the wipers are on the wrong side, and the master cylinder - don't know how the hell they rigged up the pedal box. US marker lights and exhaust bib, US engine cover with some sort of... thing on it.
Looks nice in the photo's, and the pricing is entirely consistent with the very recent sale of another Aussie 'glass 308 GTB . As a tourist delivery car, I'm surprised it's not a UK spec dry sump.
How could you have done that? Didn't it have to be compliant? It's an aussie spec car that just happened to be picked up at the factory by the owner
The tourist delivery cars were personal imports, no compliance was necessary. Which is why I'm surprised it was an Aussie spec car. Mine was also ordered from Maranello Concessionaires UK but by a UK business called "English Car Contracts" on behalf of the first owner in Australia . And he got a UK spec car , despite its final destination being Australia.
Are you SURE? Afaik it was just for a huge tax benefit, but otherwise it was the same car. Regardless, why wouldn't you want an aussie spec car as a brand new car in the mid 70s?
Although The tax benefit would have been the same regardeless of the spec of car and neither would require compliance as a personal import. I'm assuming that if one orderded the car through Maranello Concessionaires in Australia for UK delivery they would have automatically arranged an Aussie spec car ( wich is what the ad says ), but if you went through a broker (I believe european brokers used to advertise their services in Australia ) or ordered yourself it in the UK, you would have been automatically supplied a UK car. I had just always assumed that all tourist delivery Ferrari 308 GTB's were UK spec, but obviously not. And given the choice, you'd want the UK car, because it had the non emissions, single distributor, dry sump engine, but perhaps people didn't know about the detailed differences at the time ( no google, ferrarichat etc )
It was never discussed at the time, and unfortunately I am old enough to remember. And given the choice you wouldn't have wanted a UK spec car IMO....not back then, and even now I still wouldn't. No point going over all those reasons again though.
