Thanks again to Trev! With the other ecu tweaks that he put in at the same time the car is usefully more urgent and responsive.

Conspicuous by its absence from the lost above however is a 599 conversion...

Come on, who’s going to be first! The body coding Is the same for 612, so there should be no issues with getting it all to work.

Since the project has been complete, I’ve been using a home printed pedal that I reinforced with carbon fibre. I’ve been waiting an age to get the final pedal machined on a 5 axis CNC mill. I gave up on waiting from the local place that was going to do it as a favour, and a few weeks ago sent it out to an online service. It finally arrived and looks beautiful:

Last one - just to show the job all done. Thankfully managed to get out for a good run at the weekend before the government put us on full Covid lockdown. (Didn't thinking I'd be some day typing that when I started this thread...)

    Well done!!!!

Ferrari should offer this conversion as Aston Martin Works offer it for the Vanquish and Vanquish S

Thanks gents, and based on the level of support Ferrari want to give these kind of projects (Steve F knows all about this!), I'd say the chances of Ferrari offering a conversion service lie somewhere between **** all, and never going to happen. :)

Great job and write-up Brogenville! You're much too modest about your skill, intelligence and fortitude though. Now that you've published all this I may try it myself. :)

Thanks gents. No real update other than the car still runs great. Even better now that I have a few extra tweaks to the ecu flash. Trev informs me that he’s worked out how to do switchable fuel maps on these ecus too via the sport button. It sends a signal through the CAN, which he can program the ecus to select a separate fuel map when they see this command. Cool stuff I’m sure you’ll agree.

Another little job I want to do is design and print some brackets to fill the gaps where the paddles were. Most people would never notice it, but it is something that can be improved.

Have you seen a stock steering column on a factory manual? I bet those parts could be recreated and 3D printed.

I agree they could, but getting hold of one to scan isn’t the easiest task. Probably need to print in resin too to get the surface finish. That’s a lot cheaper and easier for small parts. I think I can make inserts that will look 97% as good as the factory setup, which sadly just isn’t available any more.

    Hi Taz,
They probably could. The complication is that I found that when the shift paddle frame is removed, the top steering cover isn't properly supported, and rubs constantly against the steering wheel. Hence I decided to leave the frame in place. This presents the difficulty that the shape of the frame needs to be accommodated in the insert deign, but also the opportunity that the insert can be held in place with the fixing bolts for the paddles.

Do you have the spreadsheet compiled with the parts needed that you would be able to share?

Sure, happy to share my simplified spreadsheet- see attached. I've listed Fiat part numbers where I could find them- some of the little plastic clips that Ferrari want £30 for are the same as a £3 Fiat part. You just don't get the nice yellow and black box with the horses on it.

Beware though- my list is for RHD (I'm in the UK). I spent so long with my head in the parts catalogs that I can tell yo which ones are side specific, but its a real mixture. Whenever "not for GD" or "for GD" is mentioned in the notes for a part number, this is referring to it being LHD or RHD specific. "GD" is Ferrari speak for right hand drive market. So you guys with left hookers want all the "Not for GD" parts.

Some parts will definitely be NLA from Ferrari; if anyone is keen though, I can probably help out. Things like the gear link rods- I know one of them is definitely NLA, but if there is appetite, then I can get mine copied. I have 3d scans of the LHD and RHD gear gates too, and can produce the gearstick trim piece.Just shout if any of those are of help to you.

Gimme a shout if you want a clutch pedal too. ;)
