Over here, there's a lockdown. You are only allowed to leave your home to buy essential goods, food and medicine. They have setup roadblocks everywhere,
and the police will question your intentions on leaving home. If the reason isn't valid you will be slapped with a USD 250 fine, and / or 6 months jail term.

The struggle is real, to contain the virus and ensure no spreading. Working from home is extremely weird for me.

Meanwhile Pubs n Restaurants in Uk can remain open ,even though much quieter of course. Is this to dodge paying compensation etc ?

I'm not at all impressed by the boffins/experts from NHS etc ,chinless wonders looking at their 'modelling' ..they can't see what a disaster in Italy is heading to UK within a couple of weeks?

Complete shambles in the UK government, lack of coherent strategy, aggravated by a large proportion of the public with zero common sense.

Boris is straight out of the Fawlty towers asylum. Totally irresponsible.
I have Swedish friends who live in London who also have a country house here in Burgundy and they would dearly love to be here where there is proper confinement, plenty of food, tp, pasta in supermarkets things are civilized instead they are stuck in London where the virus is allowed to run amock. I wonder if the Queen will make her PM come to his senses?

Meanwhile here in the countryside I have been into town 3 times since Monday, things are quiet, orderly and not one police or Gendarme car in sight. I enjoy a walk in the woods every afternoon with zero people in sight, it is sunny, the birds are singing, nature is blooming, at least we are not in the fall or winter.

The panic buying is beyond belief a large proportion of which will end up in the bins, leaving vulnerable people and front line people with nothing.

Its all very well and good saying how things should be done, if you can afford to stay at home without interacting with other folk, unfortunately I can assure you that is not the case for a vast majority of folk that depend on interaction to make a living.

Every country will deal with crisis differently depending on there circumstances, and capabilities of dealing with it. The panic buying in the UK is probably due to the fact of the fear of a pending lockdown.

Iam not up to date on the death toll in the UK, but I do know Itlay has a serious problem now overtaking China in the death count.

The news of that will hopefully shake some common sense into the public at large to do the right thing.

I really hope that this brings out the better side of folk, rather than greed.

Although I tend to agree on the whole TP thing, when I asked the guy with all the TP in his cart, why he was buying so much, he said that when folks get sick, they need to blow their nose and immediately toss the dirty TP in the trash to prevent contamination. I looked it up on the internet, and I read the same rational from a few sites. It’s probably better to blow your nose in the deep sink and then wash your hands really well. Who knows...

Well it's pretty much imposed someone will be staying home like it or not in the UK if you have children from today for potentially months.

Mortality rate continues to drop in murika...at least 16,638 reported cases and 216 deaths, bringing the mortality rate down to 1.29%. At this continued rate of fall, by April it’ll probably be as “deadly” as the “less exotic” flu.

But it still remains much more of a threat to the elderly and immunodeficient community. I feel at some point when the spread is slowed, special provisions like senior shopping hours etc will have to continue until a vaccine becomes available...this massive lockdown won’t make sense nor is it sustainable to only protect the minority of the general population.

Probably not in these times. American has become soft with liberalism.

The treatment research is positive. Will probably arrive before vaccine is fully available. Lets hope that is true and defeats the tide and prevents additional 'infection waves'

I have a downs syndrome daughter, she reads at a HS level, but will never be able to do math or live without caregivers. Should she be required to serve?

Do you really want a 13M person military? My guess is that if we had a 13M person military and our current politicians we would never not be at war.

It will give millennials some much needed toughening up. What a bunch of soft, self important wankers they all are.

Russia can invade western europe right now and win without wasting a single bullet. Just need to raise their voice and the purple haired pansexuals will be crying for mummy and daddy (and their commie uncle Corbyn).

Right? Not even that just look at them in daily live...the average brit policeman-woman are overweight simpletons in a high-visibility jacket...and absolutely useless in just about any situation. I look at the vast majority of them in Manchester (remember, not long ago that they had that horrible bombing of the arena!) and think to myself what are they going to do when someone is beating up someone else, or worse? Stand there and blow on their whistle, calling for backup of more teletubby look-a-likes to attempt to take down a mildly aggressive man? They're a joke.

The armed forces are a different unit all-together and are exactly what the british police force has to be.

They're too busy pumping oil to make it negative in price...maybe they'll actually pay people to take it off their hands if no place to store it.

Underestimate Russia/Putin at your own peril...I don't think he's interested in starting any kind of war if I'm honest. It would be an utter walk over in Europe (So long America doesn't meddle).

What a difference a day makes to your argument ! Overnight USA has the 2nd highest number of new reported cases, +5,854, taking you up to 19,643 reported and 263 dead. Note also only 147 have recovered, 19,233 still active. Look at the numbers man, global reported case now 275,932, 172,000 of which still active with 11,398 dead. I envisage that within 24 hours America will have the 3rd highest numbers of reported cases and your country is still only on the bottom of the exponential curve.
    Try to take it seriously.
