Guys I need your help here please. Every time my friend goes to start his 360 in the morning he has to crank it 7 - 10 times before it starts.

So he goes to start it and it just will not start properly. After many times it then kicks over properly.

The times he starts it the car like 'splutters' then you have to switch off and try again.

    Any ideas?

Sounds like a fuel issue to me, possibly pump. Go get a fuel pressure tester from autozone and hook it to the rail on each bank.

Needs a battery. They do not like low voltage during start up.

I've been systematically testing this theory for years.
I have three batteries in my car, two of which are $1100.00 apiece Braille lithium ion racing batteries. I can cut them in and out via a toggle switch connected to a solenoid. Sometimes when I let my car sit for too long, it will sputter when I try to start it on the one semi drained battery. If I flip the switch and have two high powered batteries to assist, the car starts instantly and with authority. Absolutely no sputtering.

We have been experiencing that since day one with the 360. Word still has not gotten around.

And if it starts and sputters do not wait for it to clear up and run correctly. Turn it off and restart.

The problem is that the engines have a separate computer for each bank of cylinders. One speaks English and one speaks Italian. In order for them to translate and understand each other, you need to have a perfectly good battery. Even if the battery is good enough to crank the engine effortlessly, it only has to dip a little voltage at the wrong time during the translation, then it will run on only 4 cylinders and sputter.
My 360 had this issue also, as soon as I replaced the battery, I never had the issue again. A few things to help:

    - Replace battery every 4 years even if it doesn't "need" it
    - leave battery on a tender
    - Wait for the OK symbol before starting

Mine had some starting sputtering issues after it sat for a few hours or more., turned out to be a mass airflow sensor. I had no check engine lights. Sounded like It was running on four cylinders.
After another start and Once the car and was running fine if you turn it off and back on immediately it would start up just fine.

    Vince,
Most batteries are only good for 6 years on every day cars and thats iffy. Change every 5 years for me to be safe.
