    I see.
Some promoters could have something to say if their GP is held in another country perhaps?

They could simply run the Mille Miglia and count it as 5 GPs.

I'm sure you are aware that the San Marino GP was actually held in Italy, not in San Marino?

The Swiss GP was held in Dijon and Portugal hosted the European GP to name a few other examples.

Sochi could hold a second race calling it the Georgia GP. Close enough.

Yes, you are correct. The San Marino GP was held in Imola.
I think we are heading for a very strange season, if all this goes ahead, but I have my doubts.

Spain will miss its GP, scheduled for May 10.
It's a pity because Spain could hold 4 GPs at 4 different venues, like they do for MotoGP !
Liberty could have 4 races back to back at very short distance from each other. Huge savings in logistics !!!

    Interesting thoughts about Spain.

This reminds me--they could have 3 races at Paul Richard by using different layouts.
Day 1: current layout with chopped up Mistral straight
Day 2: current layout with continuous mistral straight
Day 3: current layout but short circuit le Beausset

Well you got it in essence. Yes, De Angelis died there on a test day. This changed a bunch of things: Individual test days got banned, only FIA organized test days were allowed going forward. Reason was that he couldn't been airlifted to a hospital because they didnt have a helo at the time (IIRC). His accident happened on the long mistral straight. Got airborne etc. That caused them to introduce a chicane thereby cutting the long straight.

Elio was the great unsung hero that might have been. Fine piano player. I met him once in Hockenheim. Pity.

  11. Aaaaaahhh. Might have been indeed.
'Didna' know those details. I wasn't getting enough info back then, try as I did.
Now, advancing age, my passion is waning. Thank you.

That's what WIKIPEDIA says about De Angelis's death:

"In that year, during tests at the Paul Ricard circuit in France, the rear wing of de Angelis's BT55 detached at high speed resulting in the car losing downforce on the rear wheels, which instigated a cartwheel over a sidetrack barrier, causing the car to catch fire. The impact itself did not kill de Angelis but he was unable to extract himself from the car unassisted. The situation was exacerbated by the lack of track marshals on the circuit who could have provided him with emergency assistance. A 30-minute delay ensued before a helicopter arrived and de Angelis died 29 hours later, at the hospital in Marseille where he had been taken, from smoke inhalation. His actual crash impact injuries were only a broken collar bone and light burns on his back."

De Angelis was driving a Brabham with the.4-cyl lay-down turbo Megatron engine (BMW in fact).
One of the last F1 cars designed by Gordon Murray.
I remember reading that De Angelis's father was incensed by the lack of safety on the track and intended to sue the owner.

For those of you missing F1, there is a whole season of Marblula 1 available. They are halfway through the season and it is all there. Monaco with its tunnel, drs zones, pit lane, dnfs. When I saw it, I thought it was a goofy, but it is hilarious. Timed to the .001 of a second (how are they doing that?), rain in Montreal, close racing, favorites emerge, podiums, pit to marble radio. Commentary is the weakest part (as usual).

    Cute. Better commentary than F1.

By the end of the week you will be arguing about whether Fast Coupins is better than Pink Pearl....and why Gold Piston is losing out to Sea Turtle....... ;)

Fast Coupins is clearly favored by the FIA. What a complete bafoon. Does not deserve the lead in the championship at all. Its manufacturer cheated by giving it just a tad more weight. And the track marshals even once helped it onto the conveyor belt where Gold Piston would have been left stranded. Total favoritism and if Fast Coupins wins the title, it will be an unworthy champion. Unlike our favorite Red Stallion who is not even participating this year but the real champion of all marble times.

Marble racing is great, but TV and sponsors will ruin it soon.
