I'm impressed with this project. Mine is pretty darn close to original, with 25K miles, so that's where it will stay. But I sure respect the planning, design, and execution of this. A lot. And its probably better. Good luck!

Cheers. If I have a low miler, original QV, then I wouldn't touch it either. Mine was never going to be concours from the moment I bought it. I had to de-mousify it for a start.

So, it's been a while since I fiddled around with this. I've now got the a/c filled, and it's cold. I reckon I can get it colder with a bit of fiddling. Oh, and I wired up the evaporator fans straight off the battery, so I need to put a relay in there. I've been vacillating over a few things: I wanted to finish touching up the stone chips on the vertical folded edge above the front bumper before reassembly, but it's been wet as hell here for the last month, and not conducive to doing a good job. Plus I suck at it, and have another patient who is an expert, so I'll do it later. Also, I was planning to put a mesh screen in front of the radiator, to protect the fins on the condenser, which are very fine and soft. Anyway, my OCD kicked in, and I planned and scrapped 20 different ways of doing it, finally abandoning the idea after consulting another expert (thanks, Gizzi). So, back in the saddle...

And... I had to take it off again. Some minor adjustments where the glass repair fouled the chassis, but the main reason was to improve how it fastens at the rear. The trailing edge of the spoiler is normally attached to the cross member by self tappers. The holes were getting too large after years of wear and rust. I was going to mount captive nuts instead, but when I started poking at the rust, it was worse than I thought.

Really sorry to see that bump in the road. Can new steel be welded in situ?

Yeah, I thought I might replace the whole member, but there are lots of little welds holding the battery tray and the mounts for the cover panel, so I'm just cutting out the bottom plate and welding in that. It means I can weld the captive nuts inside. Just waiting for the skid plate to arrive so I can line up the holes.

The skid plate is ready - just need to pick it up. There were 4 screws holding the back of the spoiler onto the chassis. The skid plate was originally made for a '78 GTB, which must have had 3 screws, so that's what I'll use. The slots line up with the slots in the chassis for the suspension shims. I've included a shot of it mounted to show the orientation.

Did you have the skid plate custom made or is it commercially available? Don’t recall having seen one before and would be useful on my GT4.

A local bloke makes them - I'm not sure if he has a commercial arrangement with a retailer which might place restrictions on supply. I'll send you a PM

    Hey Doc,
Did you add louvers to the plate behind the new support you just installed. The plate is flat on my 85, no holes. I think the louvers may help cooling.
