Red Bull's head of driver development considered getting his drivers together so they could be infected with the coronavirus before the start of the delayed Formula 1 season, according to ESPN.

Helmut Marko said now is the perfect time for his drivers to contract the virus since the season is suspended and they wouldn't get sick later in the year if they do so now.

"The idea was to organize a camp where we could bridge this mentally and physically somewhat dead time," Marko told an Austrian TV station. "And that would be the ideal time for the infection to come.

"These are all strong young men in really good health. That way they would be prepared whenever the action starts. And you can be ready for what will probably be a very tough championship once it starts."

Red Bull declined to comment when asked about Marko's idea, ESPN reports.

"Let's put it this way," the 76-year-old said. "It has not been well received."

Drivers under contract with the team include Max Verstappen and Alex Albon, while the company's second team, AlphaTauri, employs Daniil Kvyat and Pierre Gasly.

    Because it's a friggen stupid (S T U P I D) position to take;
especially with a 1.5% death rate.

Most deaths are because people have underlying diseases, or because they're fat ****s.

UK Deaths because of corona itself as of today is 28. That's actual corona killing them. I'm sure the same is for the rest of the world.

Everyone is suddenly an expert. Reason? Social media and the main stream media. Remember with swine flu how many people they said would die in ''best case scenario'' and how few actually did?

What Marko was suggesting is exactly what vaccinating does. You lot are acting as if Marko had a coughing chinese in the office ready to spit on the driver.

Is Corona bad? Yes. Is it the end all be all that media portrays it is? **** no.

The economic damage this does daily is unprecedented.

There are reports of lung capacity reductions for survivors, and at max reported The 20-30% drop in lung capacity could be a season or career ending injury.

Careful with that. Before you know it this will get taken as ''IF you survive corona, your lungs will have lost 30% capacity''.

Helmut Marko must be a firm believer in the old adage that says:

"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger".

I'll take that with a pinch of salt ...

He had some misguiding thinking probably derived on healthy young adults doing so well with Corona but still no reason to suggest as such
