    I completely 100 % disagree with this.

being relevant to road cars is critical - if we are to have constructors / Manufacturers in F-1. if you don't then it is just like NASCAR - with out the vinyl wraps.

the rules are way to restrictive - with hybrid tech coming on leaps and bounds - they need to open up the rules - not close them up. F-1 has to be about the best cars ( fastest most advanced ) with the best drivers. otherwise its Indy car... and FE may as well take over.

I like Ecclestones thougths - perhaps the spec car is a base - and a team can modify it as they like - that would be a good start. I think any cylinder count you like is fine... small or large.... rotary, turbine, diesel, electric / hybrid all are good. I think Active everything with a G limit on the driver. My road Ferrari has more HP than Niki Lauda's champion winning F-1 car did in 1975.... the current SF90 will have 1000 bhp... same as an F-1 car... it cant be all about engines. there needs to be some aero and design freedom. perhaps the answer is to have multiple championships - Unlimited spend, $100M spend and $40M spend. then the competition can sort it out.

What about a compromise. A spec tub (or one tube supplied by each engine manufacturers) that provide the safety cell, engine and front suspension pick up points, fuel tank etc. Then teams can design and build everything that attaches to it with some major limitations on aero as has been suggested like single element wings, no barge boards etc.

    Blame lays at the system.

We could also blame the Jury system at the OJ trial.

    https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/148817/ecclestone-would-abandon-2020-f1-season-entirely

Bernie Ecclestone says he would abandon the 2020 Formula 1 season entirely if he was in charge of the sport now, rather than attempt to run a shortened calendar.

The coronavirus pandemic has already led to F1 cancelling or postponing the first eight grands prix of the year, with the first scheduled race currently the Canadian GP on June 14.

But as doubts continue to escalate over F1 resuming even by the summer, its current CEO Chase Carey said earlier this week that he still believed he could pull together a calendar of up to 18 events.

Ecclestone says he would not even be trying that, and that he would have called off the entire 2020 campaign on safety grounds.

Speaking exclusively to news agency Reuters, he said: "Today what would I do? I think I'd have to say we're going to close down talk of having any races this year.

"That's the only thing you could do safely for everybody so nobody starts making silly arrangements which may not be able to happen."

Ecclestone said that while that situation seemed dramatic, it is what has had to happen to other major events like Euro 2020 and the Olympics.

"It's unfortunate but that's how it is," added Ecclestone.

Asked about Carey's suggestion of a calendar of 15-18 races, Ecclestone said: "I'd be very, very, very surprised if they managed to achieve that.

"I hope they do. I really hope they do. They could run three or four races at the beginning of next year and still count to the 2020 championship.

"The problem is where are you going to have them where the teams can go and the promoter wants to run a race.

"It's all very well making the calendar, which you can do while you wait. The big problem is getting the promoters to want to run the race."

    I think Ecclestone is right.
Nobody has the guts to take the decision.
The FIA and Liberty don't want to be the bearers of bad news.
Other sporting organisations have already cancelled this year.

+1 - be done with the year and prep plans to support teams that need assistance. Prepare for next year.

There is the contrapositive (look it up) of this called::

Kill the areo and remove all other rules except engine displacement, minimum weight, driver safety, and tires.
    Then see what development brings.

    Faster top speeds.
    slower cornering speeds
    longer braking events
    longer acceleration events
All giving more opportunities for passing.
