Hey All, I am trying to get all the parts to convert an F430 to a manual. I have read several articles on here including a great write up by LorenzoR. However, there is no dedicated parts list as to what is really needed and what can be skipped. I will try to purchase all parts new if I cant find them used. I have created a parts list of everything I could find but I don't know what several of the parts are. Does anyone have a complete parts list or could help me identify these parts form LorenzoR's article: brake and clutch linkages brake and clutch switches Side Cover ball/shifter/cables to the side cover/w linkage for the gearbox for shifting I will post the complete list once I am done creating it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Not exactly what you're after, but EUrospares gave me this conversion list for a 360 for F1 to manual. Thank you, I appreciate it. Based on my research, all the parts are the same between the 360 and 430 except the power unit and the wiring harness. Is that right?
Yup. Mechanical are identical on the actual selection of gears and actuation of the clutch. It the "other" systems on the 430 you need to keep happy after you've removed the F1 kit.
May already know about it, but EAG are offering complete parts kits here: https://www.gatedsix.com/forsale
Yeah, for triple what the parts are worth. I will try to locate the parts myself and do this on a budget.
Agreed; more fun that way. Quite a few bits are NLA with Ferrari though. Key things like the turret aren’t available. Bound to be a wrecked 360 you can get one from if you look hard enough and are patient. Alternatively you could be bold and try to fabricate- there’s a guy on here who’s making his own turret assembly. He’s even worked out how to adapt a Maserati gearbox plate to work on the 360 box. Don't waste your time with this guy. He is price gouging just like the people with the hand sanitizer. I imagine he is the reason why a lot of parts are NLA as he bought them all.
Absolutely, this is more about the journey than just slapping parts on. By the way, what do you mean by turret? Are you talking about the mounting plate for the power unit?
The turret is what Ferrari call the gear stick housing. Kinda looks like a turret? Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
according to the website they are all new custom milled parts.... but I have yet to see any of the parts in the flesh or have anyone report that they received parts. I have seen photos of the guy that owns the business in handcuffs... so, yeah. Its pretty simple, if a guy had the clutch pedal, the shift mechanism, and the monkey motion that bolts to the side of the trans, you could easily scan them and have it all milled. You would sell hundreds of sets immediately. I have no idea why no one has done it.
I know that I am new here and I don't want to bash anyone but one word to describe gatedsix or whatever sham they are running is: RUN! Once I gather all the parts I will try my best to have them replicated for the community.
I've done some research as I've been collecting parts for a conversion if I want in the future. Two absolutely key parts that are no longer available.. as in on this earth, are the clutch pedal and the main shifter assembly 181751. Eurospares website says it has the 181751 but.. it will come back as "unavailable".
Thanks! I guess the best option would be a crashed car (good luck there) or a used part if ever comes up for sale.
So. I've been bored with all the COVID shutdown. And I've come to a realization for the conversion: if you want a functional part, it can be done cheap but it won't look good. If you want a beautiful part (and essentially Ferrari parts are art).. you're going to pay. Now, one of the issues that I have is there's always someone who says "it should be really easy to CNC the part after a scan and it can be done for a fraction of the cost to those who are interested in the conversion". Every time, the final part still has the Ferrari tax. So I wondered, if I wanted to make a part that worked, could I do it with hand tools? Basically what is around the house: a Harbor freight drill, a couple files, a harbor freight jigsaw and a hacksaw. What could I do? Well this is what I could do for around $40 in materials and a $130 brake box (including brake pedal) from an F1 360. The rub with the clutch pedal is the shape as it accommodates the steering rack. I did this with stacked aluminum and a bent square tube that I"ll eventually cover with epoxy and carbon fiber tape. It works, but it ain't pretty. I have a manual 360.. but I wanted to see if I could replicate the parts with hand tools. I could always change the parts if better replicas are available for down to earth prices in the future... but for now this will provide a car that can be driven manually. Actual shift box is next on parts to acquire or see what can used alternatively. I'm not paying $2000 for a metal shift gate replica and a CNC'd pedal. TBH I'm exhausted from whittling away at aluminum in the last 3-4 weeks. As of today, May 2, 2020 there are three key pieces for a 360 conversion. The clutch pedal, the shift gate, and the shifter assembly. I still need to find a shifter assembly that works and is drop in, or a way to fab the OEM gate. Unlike alot of what is being done.. I'll post what I find and ultimately if I acquire a second 360 for scrap prices if the economy tanks.
I'm not really interested in converting my F1, but I do enjoy watching the threads and seeing some of the amazing technical know-how we have on this forum. That being said I have to ask why you say to run from gatedsix? Kind of a harsh thing to say without expanding on why...
I'm amazed at what you produced with hand tools! I've had a CNC machine for eight years now and the stuff I can make, with repeatability, is quite amazing. You might look into getting one. I couldn't have made the hardtop for my 360 Spider without it. They open a world of physical possibilities. Here's a couple of aluminum parts I made recently from .25" 6061T6: Image Unavailable, Please Login You might consider getting a small CNC to help with your parts creation.
I think they will now do the conversion if you want non oem parts for about 20k installed. Seems a viable option.
