Make sure to check on the price of bringing the car back to the USA. My experience is that the cost from Europe to the USA is significantly higher. Probably due to the fact that the USA imports more than it exports so the demand is higher when importing.

Art your twisted sense of humor will be most welcome at the event;-). Would advise arrival a bit earlier than that, late may you never know with possible delays and -if it takes place- event will be mid weekend or third weekend of June 2021

Conversations re event assessment here at Retromobile going well:)

-Bob so that mad readying of your Bora was two years ago right?;-)!

Ivan we will aim to consolidate shipping -maybe yours and Elliot's cars can share container- likewise for other possible Boras from US and I will research very best quotes with reputed shippers.

Again formal decision in April of this year for June 2021 event and immediate announcement so that would leave 14 months notice.

Off back to the show I go fr another intense day!

    Best regards,

    Marc

You may want to look into the insurance cost of driving your car in Europe for a couple of weeks. It’s usually at that point where thoughts of shipping your car to Europe to drive around end.

I took my 275 GTB to Europe twice. My normal insurance covered the car at no additional cost. Third party liability[green card] insurance is required in most of Europe, a got it from a European company. It was modest cost, less than dinner at a good restaurant as I recall.Malcolm

    Grazie amici,
I'll look into return shipping and insurance costs.
    - For anyone curious about this adventure, the quote I got was $965, via shared container which allows items stored in car, Newark NJ to Rotterdam one way, including document and agent fees. Not including insurance (I'll share the quote once that is settled). Door-to-door pick up and drop off service is available at additional cost.

    Merci Marc,
Thanks for the timeline. I'll PM you some info from the shipper who quoted me Newark to Rotterdam via shared container. You can evaluate at your convenience.

Word of caution with regards to letting anyone move your car. Ignorance of the LHM system led to a lot of damaged cars back in the day. Put lots of signage in the car in multiple languages.
Of course with your very rugged rubber bumpers you're already light years ahead of the rest ... ;)

Yes indeed! For anyone interested in the budgeting, the cost is right around $3,000 to ship back from Gothenburg, via shared container, into Port of Newark, NJ.

    Hello all,

Here are the Boras at Retromobile Paris earlier this month.

The pale blue car was sold during the show (don't know price) by a Portuguese dealer, it used to be owned by French automotive publishing Serge Pozzoli who in the 70's and before sold "Le Fanatique de l'automobile" the first French classic car magazine, I visited his collection in the 80's it was very impressive, he passed long ago.

The red car was in the Artcurial auction had been in a too large collection where it was not used, I don't think it sold. Catalog page with VIN and details below:

The yellow one (pardon the flaw) is part of the Trident collection of my friend Bernard G in western France he has another silver one and the matt black Bora Group 4 recreation. This one was on display only but can actually be bought at a premium as it is a really nice restored car.

This rame metallizzato (copper metallic) one was sold in the Bonhams auction, it was sold for a belgian collector to who I sold a Quattroprote II last year...from the owner of the yellow Bora above! Catalog page with VIN and details below:

Regarding a BORA CINQUANTA event in June 2021, due to the impossibility to predict the Coronavirus evolution, the decision to go ahead or not is pushed back to May and the announcement -either way- will be made in June this year, giving owners a year's notice.

There is no point in starting a virus discussion here, off topic, and no point discussing the hypothetical event either but if I do it (with partners who can back it properly like KHAMSIN QUARANTA in June 2012) then it will be at top quality event with several pricing options in mainland Europe in a location that will be both beautiful, pleasant with great roads and fairly central in the map of where European Bora owners reside to increase the number of participants. I have two locations in mind but not discussing it now. Just mark your calendars for late June 2021.

I did start canvassing the various European Maserati clubs at Retromobile and by email on the numbers of Boras and it is encouraging: the French club for example has about 11 (off the top of the head of the smart classic car rep in the club) and both real Bora Group 4's are in France, I would expect to have at least one if not both in the event.

I don't do this for profit (I did not make a penny from K40!) but for the beauty of it, reuniting like minded enthusiast owners to celebrate a fantastic car that never got feted properly!:)

    Best regards,

    Marc

    Marc,

Your devotion to Maserati is well know and even if you had make a little bit off the Khamsin event, not one person would have begrudged you a penny. I am pushing very hard to get my Bora done this year and I intend to be positive, until proven otherwise, that you can bring off the Bora gathering but your caution is justified. Let's see how things work out but I, for one, am pushing ahead with my restoration because even a delayed gathering would be something very special for all Bora lovers. Given the circumstances in play, a delay, while not ideal but if required, is certainly worth considering.

Greetings... Nifty green RHD Bora... Great to resolve the heat-shield areas anywhere back there, and particularly around CV boots.
After full Stainless replacement of exhaust system & with euro' headers, I chose the Titanium Wrap method around the pipes where they pass under the CV boot. Generally good awhile but now left/driver-side boot is leaking some grease at inner seal nearest tranny. Probably best to implement heat-shields, but wondering how to get full info' and pics re what was done successfully. BTW, I added lightness by 'corner-muffler/resonator delete option'. A bit more rorty sounds but feels better and sounds good. Not quite so genteel. LOTs of weight in those lost corner-cans, but alas found no replacements in Stainless available anyway.
Any/all hints, tips, pics, other re heat shields, please advise: [email protected] [email protected]

I just saw this so sorry for the late reply. It's probably best to put the technical stuff in the Bora thread and this was just discussed again over there.

    Hope that helps.

Calendar for June upcoming so marked! Wonderful idea/prospect!!

Meanwhile advise all if you are somehow able to do USA/SoCal travel betwixt, tho’ doubtless unlikely.

Citroen Years book very valued, much appreciated. As owner of US’626 Bora I’m grateful for any and all seriously well-informed /-experienced detailed info’ and insights by those who drive ‘em more than just display (my excuse for cosmetic needs after full functional upgrades, &c).
Karma for me... great both ways.

Hello HighwayBora, sorry that post you refer to is obsolete.

I last wrote that if I organize a BORA CINQUANTA it would take place in a year; in September 2021, with decision by September 15 this month.

Well having canvassed the various clubs since February about Boras in RUNNING CONDITION, with only about eleven Boras in France, ten in Holland and five each in the UK, Germany, Switzerland and Austria the count is FAR LOWER than Khamsins which stand at about 130 in running condition in Europe.

Those are POTENTIAL participants/ let's say 41 Boras. So after 25 would express a desire to come but this that and the other gets in the way ten to fifteen would register by the deadline and come. Not enough.

Also with Covid numbers rising again in Europe and a vaccine (a serious one not an ersatz pushed by politicians) not ready before some time next year I don't see yours truly expending huge energy on something that might yield a single figure car count or low 2 figure. To have sponsors -such as my publisher at KHAMSIN QUARANTA in 2012- to make this event happen I need a guaranteed twenty cars. So next week there is a 90% chance I will decline doing this and focus on KHAMSIN CINQUANTA, June 16-19 2022 where, after having 27 Khamsin's at KHAMSIN QUARANTA which was a perfect success in 2012, we will aim to gather 50 K's.

Needless to say in life sometimes you take a step back to jump two steps forward and a big Bora celebration could be organized in 2023 or later. I would certainly be keen to do so. I am troubled by the low number though and think a lot of Boras must be sitting in the dark, unknown since AFAIK few have been totalled.

I think if the Bora celebration is postpone, even until 2022, and the health conditions in the world prove to be acceptable, I would makes the effort to come over for a gathering, assuming I am in a condition to do it. Seriously, I have always wanted to bring my Bora over for a month to drive through Europe and even though I will be 79 in December, if my health stays robust, as is seems to be currently, I am planning to bring the car over in 2022 and tour for a while. The number 50 is certainly important but like all things allowances can be made due to special circumstances. So lets all think positive and revisit the idea of a Bora gathering after things play out next year and look to 2022 as more of a possibility for some fun.
