I just had a 580-2 for a couple of hours yesterday and the difference from the 458 is pretty big. Even with the sports-exhaust fitted it does not allow as much noise into the cabin which sucks, but when dropping windows in tunnels you can def. hear that it is as loud and high pitched when revving to 9k but with a more (dare I say here) sexy howl in the midrange that echoes long way back in the tunnels.

The most surprising thing was that my 458 feels like it has more torque in the low RPM range, but the overall straight line acceleration was in par with the 458, not a huge difference that I could tell at least.

It was easy to get the back of the car to start sliding which is a good thing in my book, now time will tell if it is as playful as the 458. The steering felt heavier that the 458

Now I will probably buy one tomorrow, a triple yellow paint just like my first 458 had years ago. Why? Because I got a stellar deal on a just slightly used 580-2 (4000 miles and 2018 years model with warranties still valid) with carbon-ceramic brakes, and the 19 inch wheels to get the weight down as much as possible. I will track this car and hav fun, which I really do not dare with the 458 as it seems more fragile. The Huracan feels more carved out from a stone, more solid built and sexy as hell, I like to looks better than the 458, but the 458 still feels more visceral, more bang when you shift and the engines overall more unpolished and race car feel like in a good way. Will see how it goes once I start to drift the hura.

I'd be fine daily a 458, but I'd hate to do it in the Hura-sardine-can. Too harsh, too cramped, and not enough boot space. But I suppose anything is possible if you want it enough...

Fitting in one comfortably is my only problem with the Huracan. I'm just under 6', but I simply don't fit.

Like the girl I can't have, so I've stopped dreaming........

But most comparisons have at least been favorable to the 458, so I'll keep driving mine. Good luck with your 2018, looks awesome!

So picked up almost brand new 580-2 today. It pulls harder than 458 after 100km/h, but the ferrari seems quicker up to about 100km/h and then gets a bit tired, this is just my initial feelings after driving on public roads. Will take it to the track in a couple of weeks.

@dustman @Surfah did you guys experience the same feeling comparing them two? It can be that the Huracan is so much more refined and one don't sense the speed it picks up as much as in the 458. Any break in period for the engine, and how do you know when you can push it hard, just look at the rev-counter or you need to check oil temp etc etc on the right screen?

But most importantly compared to the 458, I can now turn off the passenger airbag. The stroller still fits perfectly in the super tiny luggage compartment halleluja.

If street driving is main priority I would choose the Huracan purely by the fact that is it the more modern car bu a huge margin regarding the tech, quieter when you need it to be, the battery don't need a tender even after 2 months I've heard which is something Ferrari might never achieve during my lifetime :) Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

the Huracans are faster than the 458s by a fair bit. There are youtube videos and dynos to prove this.

Had a Huracan for a week and went with 458. Will go into my story more later, but have to mention that the boot on the 458 is probably the largest out of any exotic. Insane amount of space.

I've seen his as well, it's just that the power delivery and the acceleration feedback is big difference between the two cars :)

Agree the boot space is world class, if they could just get the battery to work as great this would be 100% the perfect car for everything :)

As a previous 580 owner, the car was bullet proof. No need ever for a battery tender unless it is being stored.A blast on the track. Well controlled until pushed. Tendency to slide and oversteer. Wheel spin upon launch. As a daily driver, very comfortable especially if you have the adaptive suspension. In strata mode, highly refined and compliant. Enjoy in good health.

The battery is an easy fix. If you're in Europe get a Varta Silver Dynamic. If you're in the US, get a Braille D7548.

    Love your car!
Mine was a performante, so it was in a different performance league than my 458’s. Pista-ish level.
I remember back canyon against a aventador svj 63 and the perf was slightly quicker.
Not once in a year did I use the charger.
Spent a week on the road to Big Sur, had plenty of space.
Very reliable. You can DD this car.

    I recently purchased 458.

I drove my friends 458, drove a 488 spider and went with 458.
Beautiful car, love the spec on my car. Purchased used with 540 miles.

Part of the reason for purchase was to get a new F8.

Drove the F8 and after all comparisons I like my Huracan and my Porsche Turbo S over 458.

The finish, room in car , sound are all great....however the brakes suck compared to other cars.

I'm ready for my ass kicking....however I'll probably sell this car and purchase a new Huracan Evo and trade my Huracan for a Lambo Urus.

The Urus is an amazing machine.

    was unimpressed with F8

As one 580-2 owner to another, big congrats AP on your yellow beauty. Agree with your driving experience. Huracan howls like a banshee, I drive under a highway overpass everyday going to/from work and the sound is intoxicating and different from the 458 Spider which also sounds good. As you gain experience with the H, you will be able to modulate the throttle, lift off and shift gears like a conductor of a symphony of snap, crackle and pops. The H is next gen compared to the 458 with a more modern/higher tech interior. I have the black Sportivo Alcantara interior with the A-pillars and headliner all in Alcantara with red contrast stiching that is a cozy place to spend time.

I also have the CCBs but on black Giano rims. The brakes do not squeak at all compared to the CCB's on my California and 458 (despite bedding both properly) which is refreshing. Even more refreshing is that I rarely use the battery tender as a drive my H everyday to work when it isn't raining. I have left it off the tender up to 1 week with no issue. My California's OEM battery crapped out at 18 months and my 458 Spider's battery at less than 6 months! Fortunately the 458 was replaced under warranty.

I had a good time autocrossing my 580-2. It handled and performed well. Another driver with an orange Perf was doing some Tokyo Drifts into the cones however so YMMV.

Same here. Passed on 488 Spider went to 610-4.

Now that@cpiguy confirmed you can't pull the vacuum lines on the F8 to keep the exhaust baffles open without throwing error codes, I'm leaning towards RWD Evo as well in a couple years.

The F8 doesn’t howl, so not worth any baffles tricks.

I just bought a 458 (second one). I've driven a lot of cars, that's the only one to really get under my skin. It's just so good. I'd have probably went with a new evo RWD if Covid didn't slow production, but I'd rather buy used and I also just don't fit very comfortably in Lambos. I think the 458 will go down as one of the 5 greatest all time Ferraris. Perfect combo of beauty, sound and speed right before cars all got turbo'd and wayyyyy too quick. Pista/720S does 145 mph from a standstill in 10 seconds flat! That's not enough time to enjoy the fury.

As far as a daily driver...I guess 458 . It's comfortable , more roomy than Lambo , rides better and has better ground clearance.
The Lambo is difficult to enter and exit.

I daily drive a ford f-350. I will never have a nice car as a daily driver. I do site work and excavation , so cars are just for fun.

I like to drive like you guys ,not an F1 guy, but love to push it, especially on familiar roads.
After driving 458 and comparing to my Huracan I would take Lambo..or Turbo S
I think I'm used to all wheel drive and great stopping power. Not comfortable with 458 hard in a turn with mediocre brakes.

I have won autocross in Turbo S against GT2 and GT3 class.

I really wanted F8 as I think it's probably one of the best looking cars ever built. But after driving that , I think I'll pass.

My Lambo is 610-4. I know they are pushing 580'S now and I think it's because of price point.
Also drove my friends SVJ Aventador..to big and difficult , single clutch , bad visibility..etc.

I would sell 458 , however I think people will think I need to sell or want pandemic pricing...so I'll park it and wait it out.
It has 2 more years of warranty and no miles. I can't keep a car because it sounds cool.

    Mike

Resurrecting this old thread, I would be interested to further clarify the need for battery tender comparatively between those two cars.

    Specifically:

Is the Huracan less reliant on battery tender (as several participants claimed) because it's more modern and/or "German" than the 458?

Or is it simply due to the poor quality EOM battery shipped by default with the 458?

In other words, does upgrading battery bring 458 on par with Huracan?

    Any inputs welcome!

I have a 458 and an Evo. I drive both nearly weekly but on the odd chance I don't the 458 will die in two weeks if I don't start it. This is with new battery. So far no issue on Evo.
