I just installed a new battery and the battery is identical in size to the FIAMM battery Ferrari uses. The previous owner had a crap battery in the car and didn't have the J hooks or the heat shield. I finally found the front top bracket with J hooks and heat shield, went to install it and the hooks are too short. Were there changes to these with different model years?

Most of us have had to use longer J Hooks with the later batteries, especially AGMs. Depends on how the bracket fits as well as on the size of the battery.

Figured Taz… I'll order some generic 10" hooks. So do the hooks feed through the L bracket and the heat shield then bolt? Or do you bolt the L bracket down then the stickout goes through the heat shield with another bolt?

Thanks guys! I looked at that image too, so the heat shield holds down the L bracket from the looks of it

I used four nuts, two half height for the bracket then two nyloc for the heat shield. Half height between the bracket and heat shield

That’s what I was thinking of doing. The holes on the heat shield appear to be wider apart than the holes in the L bracket

Crap I may have gotten a heatshield made by someone other than Ferrari then. Ill drill out the heatshield to match the L bracket then. Sucks these parts are unobtanium and the PO tossed the originals when installing his cheapo battery

I'm afraid that was the fate of many 550 heat shields along the way. Early 550s were delivered without heat shields and some owners had them fabricated later on.

What you plan on doing is a good solution.

Yeah I figure theres a reason the factory installed a heat shield... seeing as the battery sits 3 inches from the exhaust manifold on a big V12. Installed a $400 Braille AGM battery so don't really feel like toasting it if I can prevent it

575Ms came with a multi-layer insulator shield instead of a metal heat shield. Usually missing, too.
