While tearing down my 308 QV engine, I found that both backing plates for the timing covers were broken. Any suggestions on how to repair them?

    thanks,
    Paul

From the picture, they look more like they were cut than broken. I would replace them with new ones but if you want to try to repair them, get a fiberglass repair kit.

    Pad,
See this thread for places that part out 308s & source parts:

Where can I find parts for my Classic Ferrari?

    http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28256

T.Rutlands & Ferrari Parts Exchange are likely sources.

BTW, if you get replacements, I'd like to get your old ones. May want to source them someday & could use them to make molds from.

Bringing back an old thread. Does anyone knows if all QV US and Euro have the T-belt cover back plate?
I was told they were optional for the Euro QV, can anyone confirm? Thanks.

My '85 Euro does not have these plates. No idea if it ever did.

Rifledriver commented on them recently, I think it was an engine number spec revision, I can't really see it being Market related, like the quiet mufflers for Switzerland...

Yup! If you look at Table 8 "timing system controls" page for the 308 QV (not US) from Ricambi (https://www.ricambiamerica.com/car-diagrams/ferrari/v6-v8/308-group/308qv/timing-system-controls.html?mode=split), it shows part 117628 "PROTECTION RIGHT BELT UP TO ENGINE NO. 2187", and part 117627 "PROTECTION LEFT BELT UP TO ENGINE NO. 2187".

My very late 1984 Euro QV (June 84 production, last week of 1984s) has engine number 2307 with no protection backing plates. Missed them by 120 units!

Gordon, I don’t know what you mean by you missed them by 120. Did they start installing this back plate after your production date with the engine number 2307? Mine is also 1984 US (49455), December 1983 production date, engine number 0040 and has the back plate.

Mike, apologies if I was not clear. According to the TAV, the back plates were installed on the Euro QV engines up to engine number 2187. After 2187, the engines did not have back plates. My engine is 2307, so it came 120 engines down the line after they stopped installing the back plates.

Ah ok! Got it. I don’t understand why didn’t they just made it standard to have it on all QV, it’s good to have it than not.
