Troy, that really sucks. I know how frustrating it is. I see you are up in Morro Bay. You might want to give Josh Bare in Petaluma a shout. He had an earlier post in this thread and he seems to be very knowledgable about the issue. It might be worth a drive up the coast to see him.

It seems weird that the smog check referee would deny the extension request. I got one for 2 years and they seemed to indicate this was normal because last year was the first year that they changed the rules. I don't know if there is anything you can do to appeal. It simply doesn't seem fair.

On my side I have not yet fully resolved it. The car is my semi daily driver and I was hoping if I put some serious miles on it, it might click over. So I have shelved it until the end of the year. But then I may be in serious jeopardy!

Let me know how it goes.

    Best

    Ron

Any updates on this thread? Interested to know outcome bc I am considering buying a Superamerica that won't pass smog per California standards (car is fine otherwise). This was determined via a PPI. ...so not sure if this issue can be resolved or I would need to register car out of state if I were to buy it.

FORZA is a magazine about Ferrari. It happens to be published in the Bay Area, and the tech with the answers happens to work in San Rafael.

That article provides a good explanation of how monitors work, why older OBDII Ferraris have problems with them, and how to deal with those problems in order to pass California's Smog Check.

I have the same problem with my 02 575. I'm not happy hearing that there is "no easy solution".
