My buddy is in the closing stages of the horrifying job of installing carpet in my ‘79 308 GTS.

He sent me this picture, stating that the carpet at the kick panel has a piece of leather attached that was not present on the old carpet.

Anyone have any idea what’s up? Is the design for fitting to a later year or something? Thanks in advance.

Trim it so that the leather fits under the door frame seal.

Yel, is it correct? I’ve been searching and I found the picture below, which looks like it. It popped up in a 1979 search, but that tan center console tells me it’s a later model. All the other pics I found 79-84ish show carpet there.

My 328 has carpet all the way to the door frame, but there is a leaf of leather to fit under the seal that goes around the door frame. If your car has carpet there before, then it should have carpet there now.

When I replaced mine the vinyl was trimmed so the carpet met the door seal, this is the only pic I have available at the moment, can take others later today if it helps Image Unavailable, Please Login

Is Mitchell said, Vinyl just gets pulled under the rubber door seal, glued and trimmed off would be virtually impossible to roll that carpet around and stick it under the door seal. All these pieces get glued in place with contact cement. Just be very careful about having any heater/ gas water heater etc. anything of an ignition source if you are using flammable contact cement. Lost a good friend my senior year putting tile in their basement she passed away a week later because of her injuries.
