“Do something scary every day...” Need advice. Doing TB’s on my 1978 308 GTS. Getting ready to pull the belts, so to be safe I’m setting the cams and TDC so all the marks line up. Here’s the problem. They don’t. All 4 cams line up perfectly, but the PM1-4 mark is on the “-“ not the mark to the left of the PM. How is possible that all 4 cams would have jumped the same tooth? This car “Ran when larked”. I’ve manually rotated the engine several times, no piston clearance issues. Someone told me these marks can be timing marks and some people refer to them as assembly marks and that sometimes they dont always line up. What are your thoughts? I’m thinking lock everything down and go for the belt change. You? The mark to the left of the PM is not the PM1-4 mark: Image Unavailable, Please Login Being on the "-" between the 1 and 4 is not terrible (only about 1 degree off). Can you post a clearer picture of all of the flywheel marks?
Can't see where the pointer is actually pointing to the flywheel due to the shaddow. There are lots threads that talk about those cam 'ASSEMBLY MARKS' and how Close or Off they may be of actual valve timing. A post by Rifledriver in one of the forums above and here from years ago shows how far off they can be. Question, were your headers glowing?
Does not look that far off to me. PM 1-4 | is the marking. And like Steve said, its the "|" mark that is the timing mark.
Oh That's perfect! Thanks! This is how my PM1-4 mark looks like., I was going off the 7 degree BTDC mark. Excellent, Thanks!
