Last Day of the London Classic Car Show. Ferrari magazine ran a full page article on the 550 Schumacher - very early chassis numbers. It asked if anybody knew of any more MS models other than .. we know of 3. 1. Ferrari’s own silver model used on the Frankfurt, London, NY stand in 1998. (Silver) 2. The similar model owned by one of the heads of Swedish motorsport. (Red) 3. And this one (black). We were told very little by Ferrari, except..... 1. None are RHD (strange). 2. The chassis numbers are almost sequential (strange if they were random orders with random extras). 3. Nobody knows (or are not telling) where the Silver Official Ferrari show model is today. 4. This car is the prototype of the WSR car (that came 2 years later). 5. It is NOT a Michael Schumacher “edition”. (That’s a 456)....... It’s a.... “550 Michael Schumacher Option” car. ....... As listed in the Ferrari Carrozzeria Scaglietti brochure and large book give to main dealers. So the advert has run in the Ferrari magazine for a while and sadly the response has been ...... zero. There are normal 550’s with nice extras - but what we are looking for are the early cars specified by Michael. And apparently with sequential numbers and as it appears .... different colours. (God knows why). Otherwise they are identical. (I’ve seen lots of cars with ‘extras’ - but we are trying to find the MS cars. If you can help - we’d love to know where the others cars are. (Plus photos). There could be 3 MS spec cars or 30 ? We haven’t a clue. If you have one ...... we’d love to know. Image Unavailable, Please Login Ferrari 550 Schumacher Options. This silver model was toured by Ferrari in Germany and London and this is the only photo I’ve managed to find of it from the New York Motor Show. Nobody knows it’s location. I’d love to find it. And add it to the red model and the black model. If you know anything of it’s present location please shout. Cheers Ralph Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I noticed a few, tiny, differences between the car in the pic, yours and mine; Mine and the car on the pic do not have the shields (mine is a sticker), while yours have. The shield option is not mentioned in the options list. (Or is yours also a sticker?) On the other hand, I do not have the "dedication plate in Silver" like the one described in the brochure and is visible in your car. Nice! Patrik- The shields were part of the Scaglietti options introduced in the 97/98 timeframe. The images of the brochure you show is just two pages from the Scaglietti brochure. Taz, thanks again. By the way, do you know of any good source of pics/information with regards to car shows (Geneva, Frankfurt, New York etc) prior to "internet"? Regards Patrik
Patrik- Mostly the magazines of the era. One really good source is Marcel Massini, of course, who attended most of those shows and received preferential treatment by Ferrari.
dear patrik. through ferrari Uk this is the only picture they have of the car they call the “Schumacher”. They did kind send me a 3 minute WSR film - which is a lovely car. But the most dreadful film, with music that sound like it was edited by a 5 year old. Great car footage though. If you want a copy just shout. cheers R Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Ralph, I came across below review on Youtube. Interesting is that the car has the same carbon racing seats (even same colour, Grigio, as mine and in the brochure) and carbon interior (incl carbon stick and doors). Also the red brake calipers and the leather rear rack, fits in with the Schumacher Options. The extinguishers is placed differently, but is there. The only thing missing is the 4-point belts and the leather upholstered rollbar, but I think the rollbar was not road legal in the USA. The missing switch he mention in the film, is the rear fog light. Maybe that too is not standard in the US-version. Unfortunately, he does not mention the year of manufacturing. Maybe the owner from New Jersey(?) is a member on F-chat and can tell us more?
Four point harnesses and the roll bar were not available on US Maranellos, 550 or 575M. US Maranellos were also not fitted with rear fog lights and a blank, inoperable switch replaced the rear fog light switch.
Thanks Taz for this confirmation. Do you know the owner of the car in the film? Is he a member? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Damn, only $4,810 for Out of Range + Paint to Sample... I guess privately-owned Ferrari hadn't figured out yet that PTS should cost $58,000!
Just picked up a Swiss car that will be coming to the states. No roll bar but just about every other MS option! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
