Gears look good to me, from what I can see.

Tomorrow I’ll remove back plate and get differential out.

Look above ..I reposted something that I found a while back

Just for completness .. if the side plate wasn't broken it would never come out cause the backplate needed to be removed to remove the oil spash guard which I think screws into the side plate

Ive had 2 that I took apart to upgrade with no symptoms that were both broken completely around the weld. One car I was doing dyno pulls on before I took it apart only to have the guts come out of the end when I took the left support out. I couldn't believe my eyes.

    Thanks for reply

A while back a respected indie told me the cause of the issue was the bearing going in side cover and causing the diff to be destroyed.. he actually said after I asked him to change diff that he wouldn't waste the money just change the bearings .. do you out any validity into that ?

Just curious if you or anyone has heard that explanation and if you out any value to it

I was reading about that yesterday, it seems to be the same conversation like the differential. Half say do it other half says don't lol.

I don't track my cars, I don't drive my cars hard. 99% of the time it's me and my daughter, this car will be mostly my mother's car that her and my dad will drive up the coast, they really want to do Pebble Beach show.

I think I am going to leave the shaft as is, in a way I agree it does act as the transmission fuse. I think I missed a bullet here so far and will be lucky to replace just the differential and some clutch items. I was scared I would see R&P teeth or damage. Hopefully tonight I can get the differential out and really know what I need to fix.

I think this was a pre existing problem with the car that was not detected and @Shamile should comp the OP the parts cost, no ?

oh heck no. not in this case. we all know what we are getting into when purchasing. unless there is a coverup on the seller's part (which there isn't) the buyer just rolls with it. things happen.

So basically the differential can give up and the car will keep running without any issues and not create any problems to the gearbox?
If the differential goes then the drive shaft “might” work as a fuse? So your beat case scenario is that the drive shaft breaks as well??

I haven't been able to open this post since this morning. I kept getting the spinning loading symbol on Tapatalk and access denied on Ferrarichat.

Yes, keep the quil / propeller shaft OEM. Your reasoning is exactly as mine. It's a fuse that prevents more expensive parts from being damaged. The quill is the original and has not been replaced.

I believe a company in Australia made a stronger one but as the experts here have pointed out, that just transfers to the next weakest link.

**** happens, not Shamiles fault and even if he did break it I don't believe for a minute he was hiding it. When I got my pilot's license and looked at buying plane a very smart man told me don't buy a plane tomorrow you can't spend $50,000 on repairs without batting an eye. I have the same mentality with these types of cars, don't buy a car you are not willing to drop a significant amount of money on tomorrow.

Trying to build a parts list, if someone can help me point to what I am missing so far. I know I will need shims and limited-slip pieces but I can't find them on a parts diagram. I would like to get most parts ordered and en route so they are here.

It is as is so you are right, maybe this would have happened on a 10k car the buyer would have paid 100k for... no telling!

I have a question about these left and right side differential covers- Isn't this a part that could easily be machined from a decent grade of aluminum? Seems not worth paying premium for a cast part and hunting it down for six months if one of these diff sellers could machine some and sell them along with their diff for half the price

Thanks for the kind words Jamie. I'm glad you see things this way as I've been bummed out about the whole situation.

As mentioned, as soon as I got my Diablo VT Roadster, the header blew out. There was rumors that it was a Diablo issue. It turns out it's a Roadster specific issue and I did a whole thread on Lamborghini power to clarify the issue....$16k later.

You are doing the same here. This post is invaluable for the forum. Anyone that has been on the fence about the diff now has an action plan.

Our transaction was a great one and I passed on all spares I had because of it.

I appreciate your attitude and know you'll love the car....as I did.
I also appreciate all the private messages of encouragement and as I've said privately, Jamie is a stand up guy.
