Just some eye fodder. Pulled the engine on my new to me 1990 testarossa. Bought it and didn't even drive it because the service history was unknown. This is what most likely original cam belts on a 30k mile car look like. Always climate control storage. YIKES!

I believe these belts are original based on the ownership and service history of the car. There is no printing left on the belt. Car has 30k miles. It has not had any mileage added in the past 5 years.

30k with zero service is crazy! Do you have service history for other items and just nothing for a major?

Digging deeper, the 1-6 intake cam had either skipped a tooth or was set up incorrectly. There was a good bit of slack, and actually slapping marks on the front cover. Car had received oil changes, plugs, air filter, all your "standard" maintenance items, just not a major that I am aware of.

Also, for anyone in the know, the belts ride all the way to the back of the pulleys, closest to the front cover. Is this normal? I am of course replacing the tensioner pulleys, but it seems there is a bit of slop in the tensioners themselves, which could angle the pulleys and cause this.

this really looks a little strange, I think about 4-5 mm?
could it be that 1 timing belt lock ring on the crankshaft ( 120733 ) is missing?

Interesting belt pics. Wasn't the original Ferrari standard to check belts at 52K miles? And it seems the type of tensioner might be equally as important, going with the Hill Engineering tensioners for example. You have to wonder how much longer the belts would have lasted with those hairline cracks. They are made of Kevlar, correct? (please correct me if I'm wrong) Another 20K miles or only down the block. Once you see the condition of them, it's not something someone really wants to find out the hard way. ;)
