No spin whatsoever, just plausible explanation, which is why I also went on to say:

"You are right that "you can't say 100% cast iron guaranteed that's the tool kit the factory supplied with the car, unless you were there at the time it rolled out of the factory gates" and that applies to any car that you, I or anyone else is involved with, unless they purchased it new and collected it at the factory.
The obsession over tool kits is crazy, meanwhile, I can tell you that my multiple GTO owning client could care less if it came with no tool kit at all, he owns this car for one reason only - that it was specially made for Niki Lauda, was fully documented in Lauda's name, and came with his EE plates."

Well-said, there is no single dogmatic way to approach the car hobby, as we can see there is room for multiple approaches.

Joe, the Lauda association is the spin, its a truly great back story to the car, however put it in a line up of say 10 other 288s on a fancy lawn somewhere, have them display their toolkits and VIN numbers but do not tell any judges the history of the cars.

Without that spin, they would be marking the car down for its non standard features, out of sequence VIN number and incorrect toolkit.

Then tell them the Lauda connection after any judging is finalised and watch that spin kick in.

    That was my point.

Horses for courses as you say though.

No spin at all, this GTO is the only one delivered in 1986, well after GTO production ended, for this reason it's entirely possible they threw an F.110 toolkit in there, no matter whether it was built for a Ferrari World Champion or Mr Anonymous.

It's not that Lauda association that makes this plausible, it's the fact that it was delivered the year after standard GTO production ended that makes it entirely possible that standard GTO ancillaries didn't apply to this car for whatever logistical reason, regardless of who it was built for.

Indeed, thank you, I corrected it, I got the chassis number correct the first time https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/posts/147218826/ , it was simply too late at night!

Excellent, the effective servicing access to the front of the GTO's engine via the interior bulkhead is supercool, ditto the F40.

And yes, we do intend to relocate the pressure sender to an isolated mount on the chassis. Joe had sent me some pictures of this factory approved relocation, which is common in rally cars.

    So eighties.

However, most people ask me for the all-black 8500 leather specification.

Right. I was in high school when they came out. Will never forget seeing the first one at my local midwestern gray-market car dealer.
For comparison purposes, I made friends with a college student through that dealer who was driving a new giallo 308 GTSi QV at the time, for which he paid them $46,000.

Can anyone identify this 288GTO? Here at Maranello Sales in the UK on 18th Dec 1991, registered B397JPG. According to the DVLA registration records, this car was originally registered on 21st March 1985. I have a rear photo too if needed. Seems to have a gold front badge. This is a 29 year mystery.
    Many thanks.
