I arrived to NYC, it was pouring rain and was picked up by the owner, we drove to his home and showed me the car that was tucked away in a small dark garage.
We took a short drive around the block, shook hands and struck a deal.

After a few days, the car arrived to sunny San Diego and took a 30 mile drive to see my good friend and master mechanic engineer Steve Maxwell from Steve Maxwell's Exotics, who took a good look, shuck hi head and said... "ok this will take time, we have a lot of work to do but you've got yourself a great unique car, now "go sell the 1983 QV" and lets get started.

As I got the know the car I found out that it not only had a dent in the door jam but many other little things as a result of neglected upkeep.

    FINDINGS:

    -Front spoiler damaged
    -Wheel well battery cover missing
-Shocks and self adjusting non funcional
    -Couple of oil leaks
-Strange rattle noise somewhere in the engine bay
-Rear grill where the exhaust tips pass through is cut and missing the bottom edge
    -Driver's seat back non reclining
-Deep scratches in rear seat leather
-Instrument cluster gauges color is faded
    -Sunroof non functional
    -Headliner dirty and sagging
    -Stereo head unit non functional
-Instrument cluster free / bracket broken in some places
    -Missing from carpets
However the car came with a full history of service records from Ferrari of Atlanta and they stop as soon as the owner from whom I purchased the car took over.

Very cool! Are you planning on having the gauges restored? If so, by whom?

What is the VIN of the car? Only 43 T coupes here in the US, and I'm sure many of us here know the previous ownership of the car.

Congratulations on finding such a rare car! Just needs a few things and it will be right as rain.

    Good morning JLF
Yes, of course, the speedometer was sent to Buz Raz at Seattle speedometer and I did it have a good experience, the job was average and the cost somehow went from $600 quoted to almost $1,000 so I felt ripped off by him.

Later I was referred to Joey at MOMA Instrumentes out of Albuquerque who asked me to send him all the gauges including the speedometer and quoted me $1,600 for all and would to redo the speedometer.

He showed me photos of his work for Pebble Beach and was very nice on the phone so I sent all to him and they are now on their way back, I should receive them tomorrow and I will post photos.

I don’t have it handy but I will get it later and post.

It would be great to learn more about the car and to get to chat with owners of this particular car and others.

Cool, can’t wait to see them. Mine are faded but not badly, but when I see pictures of new cars the instruments were so much brighter and prettier. I’m considering doing it.

    Good evening everyone:
A few days ago I met with a good friend Oscar owner of Escondido Custom Upholstery and we discuss my interior in great detail, the point of the meeting was to change the carpet and after a long debate, we decided that we would do the complete interior and would change color to black.

Does anybody know if there are any Mondial t's Red / Black?

Here some photos of what the interior looked like and the work in process.

So we are going 100% black leather including headliner.

I did some research to see if leather headliner was an option in 1989 but could not find anything in this regard.
If anyone know, pleas let me know.

Very cool. Amazing how much the leather has faded as evidenced on center console where the carpet used to be.

Meanwhile the engine is being checked out and a f
Yes and that is one fo the reasons why I decided to to the complete interior.
The only think that concerns me is that I don't want to lose the classic "old Ferrari smell" when replacing the interior.
I have heard that It will not ho away and i hope so.

Just curious. Are you from up north? Because I can tell you that black leather interiors get brutally hot in the southern sun, especially on convertibles when that top is down (think 15 minutes sitting in the parking lot).

    Hi Wade:
    Beautiful car, the Cabrio.
No, I am in San Diego Ca and well aware of the impact of dark interiors however the care will hardly ever be outside and when and if left parked in the exteriors, I will make sure is not exposed.

I couldn't find any detailed interior photos of a black/red t Coupe, so the Cab pics might help.

Do you plan on some window tint? I know there are mixed emotions about that but it worked really well for the black/red 3.2 Coupe I owned in the past.

I ordered our 1990 t sometimes during the summer of 1989. Later, maybe october or november, I was advised that I could order a full leather interior: dash, doors, headliner and rear window inside trim, which I did.
