I have the car on my lift doing fluids and I think my ac compressor is shot. When I first got the car I remember seeing accumulation of some liquid on it when running. Maybe Freon leak?

Anyway the AC doesn’t work and I was thinking while I’m in here I might get the compressor looked at or replaced.

Anything to know about doing this other than disconnect and remove? Reinstalling? Tightening belt?

disconnect, unbolt, removed, and replaced along with new orings , install and tighten belt, refill with R134. That is all there is to it.

Thanks Mitch. Are we rebuilding the old one, getting a new/rebuilt one ? Anything special about the part? Is it readily available?

It's available, just on the expensive side. $500 I think.

I believe you may need a new dryer as well.
I recall these guys may have equivalent compressor option for less than OEM price. https://www.polarbearinc.com/

I have(348) polar bear's compressor for +2 years, $350<>$400. and their dryer $40<>$50..... well worth it. You can also purchase OEM Compressors for a bit more. I'd buy again... 348/355 most are the same...

There are three options on that link for 355. I don’t see dryer ad an option. Which one is right?

I was doing a little research on this subject last year when I taught myself to recharge the system.

The compressor is Sanden brand as noted. However even though there is a model # (which I can’t recall) from what I recall there are changes from how they were built originally versus now with the same model #.

I would find a Sanden compressor dealer and have them rebuild it/service it.

DrBob I have a professional AC machine and I am located it N.J. it would be my pleasure to meet you at my place to evacuate the system and then properly recharge it when the compressor is reinstalled.

If the compressor is removed and /or there was a large leak it is best practice to replace the drier/desiccant also.

Let’s plan on this!!! Would be fun to meet and charge it

I’m ordering the original seldin unit from the link posted above. Earlier today O told me they wanted my unit to use the pulley on a new seldin unit. She called me back and someone corrected her and they have an aftermarket pulley that they say is exact and they don’t need my old one.

Taking pics of the dryer tomorrow morning to confirm it and then ordering as above they can ship tomorrow

As soon as I destroy my hands again and get it installed I’ll reach out.

    thank you

Thanks. That's a great idea. I'll take a closer look at the condition of the compressor itself. The last time I checked it turned over without any restrictions or binding. However, the pulley did incur some damage when the tech was trying to remove it.

I’m not able to view that attachment but the drier on my car is located below the windshield (under the cowl/trunk liner) right in the center. The service ports for the ac system are there also. The trunk liner at the base of the windshield needs to be removed.

Also, please make sure they tell you if the compressor will come pre filled with refrigerant oil or not.

Please order a small container of the correct grade refrigerant oil from them as well as we will need it to recharge the system.

You will also need o rings for the compressor and drier line connections.

I thought it was on the right side under the access panel, thought I saw it there, maybe when I had my carpet out. I don't recall it being in-front of the HVAC when I replaced my HVAC heater pump.
