As much as I love the TR for a long rod trip in 2020 that would not be my first choice. If you are going to do this there are other things I experienced that I would address too for your mum. I’d look in the fuse box to see if this is all up in good shape, alternator ,AC as well. Don’t get me wrong it was an amazing car to
    Do
This in 1985, still likely possible in 2020 but with the heat going to Vegas etc. I’d check a few things. Still possible look:

I’m replacing the AC system as it doesn’t work.

Fuse box repair done with gold connectors.

Vegas won’t be till winter for her she doesn’t go in the summer. This summer would be her beach trips.

Parts are starting to show up, they will be trickling in over the next week. Pauls new differential should be here today.

I also have the lift being delivered tomorrow. I need to put the rear cover back on so I can reattach the motor mounts and move the car. I will then attempt to push the car on the lift tomorrow. I installed a new side lifting garage door opener last night for more clearance.

RifleDriver won’t sell me the parts needed to fix the limited slip since I won’t drop the engine.

    Anyone else help?

    Hi Jamie,
What parts do you need from the stock differential?

  8. Natkingcolebasket69

I’m not sure, going to disassemble the stock and reinstall parts into Paul’s this weekend.

Someone commented parts we’re broke but I don’t know what. I’ll lay it all out here shortly.

If you need stock internals you can have mine. I already timed my motor so I am moving onto the diff next.

why? take a strong rope, fix it to the upper frame, go under then engine and fix again on the other side at the upper frame

    yes

with the worn out plates? or got somewhere good ones?

he has new parts or used ones? if new parts then he knows why he not sell you. the parts are getting more rare and he not want to give parts away in the fact that they will get damaged soon again. but with used parts he could sell you. if you still need parts when I hopefully be back in my garage end of next month then let me know. otherwise still good luck and happy dinner tonight :)

Took me 20 minutes to attach rear cover and motor mounts. It’s back on the ground and ready to be rolled out tomorrow AM so the lift can get installed.

The worn out side plates are not attached. Hoping to source some and reassemble Paul’s differential. Are those spacers specific or different or all the same? I’ll take some detailed pictures tomorrow for you of the reassembly so you can tell me I did it correctly.

Dunno, he just said he can’t support a repair being done incorrectly. Kinda insulting since I’m not half assing anything, if it can be done correctly without dropping the motor I am going to try. Others have successfully done it.

Moms birthday dinner, in a restaurant and no mask required. Big deal here in California. Everyone had to drive over an hour, we flew in.

She does, found someone to put extensions in as she’s losing her hair. Turned 64 so she’s young, just unexpected health issues.

The bearing doesn't need a puller- there's holes to knock it out from the back side. Those TWO holes in your nice shiny new part are to put a drift through to remove the bearing. I suspect there's two holes in the removable side also.

You don't need a puller. There are two holes in the carrier and you can tap them out from the inside. The races fall out of the covers once you apply oxy torch heat. Hope that helps. I bought my bearings and races online, not from a F car shop. Bearing numbers and races are common Off the shelf parts

Awesome thanks. Going to disassemble the old one tomorrow.

Plan on pulling the bearing tomorrow and getting the type so I can order them.

A F Chat member was gracious enough to mail me a bearing press.

Honestly, I’m impressed with all of this.

don’t ever feel insulted by Brian btw. He’s an expert on these, but as with many experts, he never employs shortcuts and is entrenched in his methodology.
