F430 License Plate / Back-Up Camera Suggestions ...

Do you have a link to that device? I want one for my F430. TIA

 

I bought a spare lic plate light, drilled a hole, then mounted this camera using a rubber gasket.
Dep on style of lic plate light you might have to source another 12 volt bulb holder to accommodate the camera mount.

it looks very close to the oem

and it is 100% reversible if you sell. No holes in body work.

Also the clarion head nz503 unit can be found for 150-200 wo the horsey occasionally. There where two for sale 1q20.

I a b tested the nz503 vs the latest pioneer double din and to my ears the clarion has the pioneer beat. But this was through the head unit amp only.

I'm interested in installing a back up camera but don't particularly like the long strip ones that bolt on top of the license plate

 

Looks identical to the oem to me.

From my review this is how the factory variant mounts.

The cable runs through the existing lic plate light hole and grommet.

you can source the mini 12v light from eBay.. think it was a motorcycle lic plate light holder.
The illumination is balance between both sides.


You will be hard pressed to see it.

This looks great. My question is which head unit would you recommend connecting this to in place of the OEM radio unit?

I live in Costa Mesa, CA so if you have a shop in mind that performs competent installs I'd appreciate a pointer.

this 700 used part has a wire loom that sends vid signal to the head unit

also takes a 12 v rev light input from the tail light harness

You can tap into your rev light loom or if you are ocd you can source the short tail light jumper harness from eBay and tap into it and keep your untouched stock harness for resale.

Solder and clothe tape are your friends.

it’s a fun diy hack that saves some clams.

I don’t know if being offset from center by a few inches matters for backup view.. I will only use this for proximity of bumper to curbs and cars... not intending to use those phantom guide lines... I find those hit and miss on am parts.

 

Image a little washed out w the sunlight but you get the idea... was testing it all out before button up rear bumper.

If anyone is interested and wants to keep their factory stereo, I modified a LookIt camera (https://lookitcam.com) by flipping it upside down so I could use the bottom screws only (flipping the camera and modifying the bracket so it can point in the right direction when upside down and then sealing it with black RTV). The lookit cam uses a 3 year battery and my iPhone as a screen. Not as good as having a wired solution which turns on immediately (can take up to 10 or 15 seconds to start), but I didn't want to modify my car at all.
