So I am NOT the only person who has driven his FCar in the rain without it melting?!?!?!?!!??! (Okay....that pic is over 10 years old from my old F355 but still!) Image Unavailable, Please Login
hahahaha YASSS!!!! I've been gone since 2013! Just re-joined 2 days ago because I am bored stuck at home and decided I need to buy a Cali......so I am looking! Posted more details of my hiatus in the Rossa Section! Long time, Daniel!!!!
Looks good so far! While you're at it, think about reinforcing your front shock mounts. 1995 cars had notoriously thin mounts prone to cracking. Even more so in Challenge cars with their 1900 or 2200 lb/in front springs. The mounts were beefed up with the 1996 model year. 1995 Challenge cars got this reinforcement (#8)... Barry, THANK YOU! I noticed that the seam sealer was cracked in that area. I meant to ask about that. I'm going to ask my friend about welding in reinforcements. I also am slightly relocating my battery because I hate the stock battery tray and location. Mine was beat up and super rusty. It also had been re-welded on once before. It's now gone, and I'm buying a lightweight AGM battery that we will custom design a mount for in the trunk area, or ideally in front of the AC condenser if there's enough room.
As of today. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well, here she is with the front bumper bolted up - thanks to The Outcast for making a deal with me on it! Still needs the headlights installed and some trim, plus prep work needed before paint. Not to mention the engine needing to come out. Image Unavailable, Please Login
What a cool thread; first time I’ve seen it. I admire your candor and openness. I would have done the same thing; our cars are worth saving. The Bradan page is always worth checking out; they are that rare thing: a highly skilled, competent and ethical bodyshop and they are good enough to share their world with us via threads. As has been pointed out, they’ve done a number of 355’s, so there’s a great library of images to pore over. John
I always look forward to your progress reports. It looks like all is going well. When the body repairs and engine-out service are completed, you will have a special sense of pride when you drive your car that just a very few of us have. You will have been part of the construction of your F355. Get yourself a Carroll Shelby Stetson for the occasion. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well, I am a fan of Shelby. But I think in this case I'll need to wear my Enzo shades. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Image Unavailable, Please Login They look like Bob Dylan shades to me. I've learned to help support my F355 Challenge at track events. A few years ago coming down the front straight, now called The Sam Posey Straight, at Lime Rock Park, I developed a bad vibration of my right front wheel. I thought I picked up a chunk of rubber throwing the wheel out of balance. The vibration was so bad that I felt the steering wheel vibrating as well. I pitted in and had my techs take off the wheel. I had lost a 1/4 ounce balancing weight. The silver tape securing the lead was still there and partially peeled away but the lead was gone. My techs wanted to mount my spare set of front wheels and slicks. I told them to get me a new lead. The didn't have one on the truck. I went from team to team looking for a balancing weight and finally found some on the Miller Motorcars truck. I used the existing silver tape to index where the lead should go, stuck it on the wheel and secured it with some new silver tape. The wheel was put back on and I went back out on the track. The wheel was perfectly balanced and all vibrations were gone. That's something that AJ Foyt would have done... I bought this cap to commemorate the occasion... I’ll check the parts pile and see if we kept it. If I still have it it likely has a lot of holes in it from drilled spot welds.
Hello, I don't mind that there are holes in it. If you have the part I need or if you have other parts from the front, please, send photos of it to my e-mail: [email protected] Thanks.
